the annotations are great, well worth the Credit. You can tell the Narrator has a love for the series and does an excellent job.

Visionary Pulp Fiction at its best!

What can anyone really say about ERB? He was the pulp fiction master and writing serials like these for publication in the early 1900’s. Listening to them in this context is a window into the mindset of that era. I also found the “notes” on each book to be interesting and insightful.

Moreover, it is fun to consider just how many of the images of his creations are currently reflected in reality and the differences between the two. One really has to give the man credit for creative thinking.

That said, this reading perhaps would have been more satisfying if the reader would have familiarized himself with the common pronunciations of common words that appear throughout the store such as “sword,” “craven,” “succor,” “tumult,” “genera,” and “accoutrement” to name but a few. The way they were pronounced stopped the story in my head like a truck hitting a brick wall every time it happened.

I loved the series. Good reader. I can visualize the story as it is being read.

Very entertaining but don't like the narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend someone to buy this and read it, but not buy this book on audible. This trilogy is so full of detail and feeling that I don't feel the narrator does a sufficient job portraying the story in a way that would keep most readers further interested.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The John Carter Trilogy of Edgar Rice Burroughs?

I love the conversation that Carter has with Deja, when in captivity, about love amongst the inhabitants on Mars.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Finn J.D. John?

He talks too fast and sometimes blends critical thoughts in the story with those that are less impactful to the detailing of the storyline. I feel like he tries too hard to carry out his own takes from these stories and emphasize there impact to the reader. Each reader should determine which elements are most important to them in a book, not have a narrator predetermine and point it out.

Great Series, bad narration

The narrator really struggles with long sentences, which are quite common in Edgar Rice Borroughs' wordy writing style.

John Carter from Virginia! & Mars!

This is a wonderful story from long ago...John gives us some details about the author and then jumps into the story of John Carter with passion and excitement. I really enjoyed listening to this and it took me back to a time before the "technology age" of today.

What made the experience of listening to The John Carter Trilogy of Edgar Rice Burroughs the most enjoyable?

Hearing that this inspired Lucas in writing Star Wars, I thought it might be interesting to listen to something he loved as I loved Star Wars.If you are a science fiction TV series fan you really should listen to this trilogy!I can see how this influenced such series as Star Trek, Star Gate sg-1, and Star Gate Atlantis!It was funny to hear lines/scenes that must have most certainly been the basis of many episodes and basic plots in recent science fiction movies and series.It is definitely a fun listen!

Indiana Jones comes to mind when you get to know John Carter.

John's performance made me feel like John Carter was telling the story.

I chuckled a few times when I came across parts of his stories that have obviously been used in recent science fiction movies and tv series.

I really enjoyed this and will probably continue on to listen to Tarzan.
This has been an entertaining light read....actually listen. :o)

Awesome S-Fiction from the Early 20th Century

Being a huge fan of Tarzan, I explored this series and ERB did not disappoint. I loved the Disney Movie John Carter from 2012 and this trilogy filled in what couldn't be shown in the movie due the limitations of film.

NARRATOR WRECKS A SCI FI CLASSIC

Isn’t there a normal narration for ERB’s Mars Series in the Audible catalog? I listened to the first book and the narrator attempted a phoney and very annoying Virginia accent. I returned it. This one by “Finn J.D. John” was described by another reviewer as someone’s friendly uncle; he is entirely miscast as a reader of an action fantasy product, and sounds like he’s reading to his granddaughter and doesn’t want to scare her. Still looking for an effective, masculine presence to read these books.

Started good but ended not so much

Struggled to finish it. I liked the story very much but it got silly after a while. Too much of the same thing over & over. Became predictable.
