That entire nation's attention was transfixed as the disappearance of a teenage girl revealed a daring case of concealed identity and international intrigue, culminating in a 1,000-mile chase in the depths of a Scandinavian winter.

The allegations that were levelled would keep any parent of a young child awake at night. A secretive cult operating in close proximity to children: stealing, forging medical records, and possibly attempting to create a new messiah were in full swing. All the while its members appeared, on the surface, to be models of excellent caregivers.

This is the story of the infamous Kuřim Case, an investigation that engrossed the public and media of a whole country for two years. It is a story of intense cruelty and sadism, inflicted on the most vulnerable members of society.

If you are especially sensitive to accounts of the suffering of children, you may find it advisable not to listen any farther.

Another horrific True Crime by Ryan Green

Ryan Green has done it again. He has brought us another horrific true crime case. This case was a bit hard for me to follow not because Ryan did a bad job, because he did not, but because of the amount of people who contributed to the horrific events in this case. Ernie Sprance narrates this audiobook and does a great job bringing the facts of this case and the subsequent arrests and trials.

In May of 2007 in the small town of South Moravia region of the Czech Republic a man hooks up his video baby monitor,. Instead of seeing his child's room he sees a small child in a small room tied up. The man calls the police and shows them the video and a investigation starts to find this poor child. The police do a door to door check at the close neighbors homes. Wit the help of the man and his baby monitor they are actually able to find the home after the people living there say that no it's not there house. As the investigation goes on more and more depravity and people involved come to light. Not only is this a horrible mother abusing her children but it also goes as far as other family members and a religious cult all having hands in this horrible case.

Ryan does not go into graphic detail of all the sickening details of the abuse these children suffered. He kind of skimmed over them quickly. I have to give him credit for that. He told just enough to give you the idea and let your mind do the rest. This is a short book at only 2 hours and 53 minutes but it is filled with non stop actions of this case.

Awful bit of history, but...

While the subject matter is horrific, it has sadly become all too common. However, this review is on the audio book and not the subject matter.

The narrator gave a flawless reading, and his voice is very pleasant. But as chilling as the subject matter is, the book failed to keep my full attention, and that is only the third time this has happened. It seemed to me to be just the culling of media stories without any interviews, without any thorough descriptions. I could not visualize any of the actors in this melodrama, I could just as well have been reading directions on how to knit a sweater.

I'm sorry, I wish I could have given this a better rating. The first few chapters seemed very promising, but the book did not live up to the expectations. Perhaps other listeners will not have the same reaction.

I have never heard of this case and was so surprised by every turn. There is so much information…This was a excellently executed true crime audio book. This book was really informative and interesting to listen to. I would highly suggest.

very good story, terrible circumstance

I was given this book free with the understanding that I would write an honest review.
this was an enjoyable listen, in so far as a story about terrible events can be enjoyed.

This is a story about the sick minds that can commit and condone extreme child abuse, how they got caught, what they actually did, why they did it, and their consequences in that order. A lot of people come into this thinking it is going to be more about the events themselves and it being very detailed and told how things were for a long period of time. this is not the case. the events that happened with the boys are very broad, taking up maybe 20-30 minutes if that. most of the book is really why these people did what they did and how they made it right to themselves and covered it up so long. another large part is the court proceedings.

First the good parts of this book: There was a wealth of information presented in a clear and concise manner. The editing was done well with no voicing errors, words cut, or repeated lines as I have found in several others.
the bad for me was as follows: This book read alot more like a court document than a book. it was too crisp and mechanical for my taste. It could have been loosened up a bit. this is Stark contrast to the narrator, he seemed a bit too upbeat for what was being read. I feel both could have struck a better balance. Also, and this is my last criticism, I feel a little bit too much time was focused on the criminals and too little time was focused on the victims. if these things were balanced a bit more, this would have gotten an A+ in my book. Thanks for reading, and do pick up the story, it is very much worth the time.

not as grafic as thought

the names were confusing. but overall an interesting read. i like that the author kept it the shorter length. this way he went right to the meat of the story. not messing around w boring, drawn out details. other authors should use this example. .

Read a bit like a book report

Overall this was ok. I appreciate Ryan's research and details into these cases. However, this one read more like a report detail vs a true-crime book. I like Ryan's other books when he comes at it from the point of view of the killer.

Chilling Description of Child Abuse

TARGET AUDIENCE: This is a true story; the author describes what really happened without creative license. Truly gripping story showing not only the atrocities that can be committed by mankind, but also how difficult it is to truly understand what causes such behavior.

PROFANITY AND SEX: N/A

STORY LINE: The story starts with the horrific discovery of child abuse, and describes the process of investigation of this horrific crime. As a prior Child Protective Service Worker, I found the story line riveting. Like so many of these crimes it is impossible to truly sort out all of the details, but the author did a good job at sharing everything possible.

NARRATOR: Good job at narrating the book.

OVERALL: Highly recommend this book.

alot of twist and turns!! a good traveling story! worth a listen! and good narrator!

A Surreal truth

this touches home for me in a sense, as I can relate to some of the horrors that the two young victims experienced. it's a very common thing in the world and should continue to be investigated in order to protect the innocent.
