Resumen del Editor

In this masterful debut, Martin Clark proves to be the heir apparent of great Southern raconteurs and the envy of more seasoned novelists as he takes us on a frantic tour of the modern South. Hung over, beaten by the unforgiving sun, bitter at his estranged wife, and dreading the day's docket of petty criminal cases, Judge Evers Wheeling is in need of something on the morning he's accosted by Ruth Esther English.

Ruth Esther's strange story certainly is something, and Judge Wheeling finds himself in uncharted territory. Reluctantly agreeing to help Ruth Esther retrieve some stolen money, he recruits his pot-addled brother and a band of merry hangers-on for the big adventure.

Raucous road trips, infidelity, suspected killers, winning Lotto tickets, drunken philosophical rants, and at least one naked woman tied to a road sign ensue in The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living, one part legal thriller, one part murder mystery, and all parts wild.

Engaging & Witty

Love this author and narrator! Great characters and lots of twists, a totally unique adventure.

Strangest meandering story I have ever listened to

It was like I was trying to understand what the plot was through the entire book. That does not mean I did not enjoy the characters, I did. The performer did a good job, you always knew which character was speaking. I have been to the restaurant in Charleston, and it is exactly as described. Just a strange book.

fun, rambling novel

This is the second Martin Clark novel that I have read and I have enjoyed them both a great deal. (The other was the Substitution Order). They are kind of odd and rambling with likable characters. I plan to listen to all the rest of his work and recommend this one.

Great read

Winding, twisting, surprisingly fresh southern story. Humor and drama, family ties...
A fun refreshing read

Hidden Treasure

After about the first 20 minutes I was ready to give up on this book. A couple of weeks later I came back with a different mind set. I started over and never stopped. I can’t fairly describe the book. The style is not like anything I am familiar with. But I really did enjoy the book. The narrator deserves an Academy Award!

I tried. I really did.

This was an all over the place, disjointed, small town gossip novel. I live in a disjointed, small town gossip place, and this was more than I could bear. I love my Southern novels, but I am not keen on ones that still make us sound like sexist, racist idiots. I admit, though, the brother and his band of miscreants were the only thing that got me as far as I did. They were older versions of the hoodlums that graduated with me 45 years ago.

love them all.

Mr Clark is great. His descriptions are so incredible , he has a mastery of the mundane that is sheer poetry. I have been listening to all his books but can't wait to get hands on the written words so I can truly savor all the richness again !!

SO ODD but couldn’t stop

This story does not fit into a category! The brothers have a loving strange relationship. The main character is a middle aged white, somewhat racist judge who becomes friends (and more) with a progressive no nonsense young black female attorney. Sounds odd but is delightful. And that’s just one of the kooky storylines.
I will remember this book and the characters for a long time. I loved the author’s voice and vocabulary. I will definitely read more from this guy.

Where's the Payoff?

It is so far fetched that you can't help but listen until the end..but not nearly enough closure to explain all the weirdness. Narrator very good!
