About the Author:
Ali Simpson received her MFA in creative writing and literature from SUNY Stony Brook Southampton. In addition to The Southampton Review, her work has been published or is forthcoming in The First Line and Carrier Pigeon. She is currently working on a collection of speculative fiction, When Meat is Given a Second Chance. She works as a publishing assistant and lives in the forest.

The monster

This is very hard to make a review of. it was pretty interesting, but a shocking story, and then it just ends.

Metaphoric

This little short story is a good metaphor for pretty much anything that can consume one's mind and soul, even if they dont realize at first they have a problem.

Best Monster story I have read in a long time and the reading is just spooky enough to listen to alone.... like short story love child between Lynda Barry and Modest Mouse.

The Monster…

The monster could represent anything from abuse, work, addiction, depression. Heeding it results in isolation. Nice metaphors for the somber conditions that often prompt the question, “Why don’t they just leave?” I enjoyed this playful telling.
