Resumen del Editor
Prepared to frightened and spooked by these genuinely scariest places on Earth! The world around us is a scary place. With danger lurking around so many corners, the threats we can explain are often easily quantified and dismissed. Rather, it is the unexplainable, the paranormal, and the strange which present the biggest threats to our psychological well-being. All across the planet, certain places and buildings have come to represent these abnormal and unexplainable phenomena. From ghosts to genocides, brutal murders to witches' covens, these locations are both hyper-specific and universal. In almost every town, village or city, there is often an area where people are wary. A certain building people say is haunted or a home they know has a particularly gruesome past. People might warn children to stay away. These buildings might form the backbone of some local folklore, or they might actually be condemned and restricted to the public. In these buildings our imaginations run riot and we wonder what could be possibly be lurking down the long, dank, and dark corridors. But not all of these places are created equal. In this book, we will examine some of the most terrifying, strange, bizarre, odd and depressing places on earth. These might be haunted homes or the resting place of a murderous maniac. Some have been created by the evils of modern man while others are tributes to ancient and dark mysteries we still struggle to explain. The one thing they share is their ability to chill you to the bone. But as you work through this list, the true extent of humanity's capacity to imagine the horrific should not be underestimated. When you are ready to learn about some of the worst places in the world, like the island of the doll in Mexico, the Paris catacombs, the Hell Fire Club in Ireland, the Ridges in the USA and much more...just download your copy today!

The Knights Templar existed officially for less than 200 years. Founded to protect pilgrims who were travelling through the Holy Lands, their rise to power was sudden. They became some of the most feared warriors in the region, they had a mandate from God, they controlled perhaps the world's first real banking system, and they waged war against anyone who tried to wrestle Christianity and seize holy grounds from the control of the Catholic Church.

Seized by the reports, American diplomat John Lloyd Stephens and British artist Frederick Catherwood sailed together out of New York Harbor on an expedition into the forbidding rainforests of present-day Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. What they found would rewrite the West's understanding of human history.

But in reality, the first war-crimes trial against the Nazis was in this idyllic, peaceful Ukrainian city, which is fitting, because it is also where the Holocaust actually began.

They live in shadows - deep in the forest, late in the night, in the dark recesses of our minds. They're spoken of in stories and superstitions, relics of an unenlightened age, old wives' tales, passed down through generations. Yet no matter how wary and jaded we have become, as individuals or as a society, a part of us remains vulnerable to them: werewolves and wendigos, poltergeists and vampires, angry elves and vengeful spirits.

Meriwether Lewis discovered far more than the history books tell - ancient civilizations, strange monuments, "nearly white, blue-eyed" Indians, and evidence that the American continent was visited long before the first European settlers arrived. And he was murdered to keep it all secret. Examining the shadows and cracks between America's official version of history, Xaviant Haze and Paul Schrag propose that the America of old taught in schools is not the America that was discovered by Lewis and Clark and other early explorers.

In 1918, a world war raged, and a lethal strain of influenza circled the globe. In the midst of all this death, a bizarre disease appeared in Europe. Eventually known as encephalitis lethargica, or sleeping sickness, it spread worldwide, leaving millions dead or locked in institutions. Then, in 1927, it disappeared as suddenly as it had arrived. Asleep, set in 1920s and '30s New York, follows a group of neurologists through hospitals and asylums as they try to solve this epidemic and treat its victims - who learned the worst fate was not dying of it, but surviving it.

Historia
In 1939, a team of workers beneath the Vatican unearthed an early Christian grave. This surprising discovery launched a secret quest that would last decades a quest to discover the long-lost burial place of the Apostle Peter. From earliest times, Christian tradition held that Peter, a lowly fisherman from Galilee, whom Christ made leader of his church was executed in Rome by Emperor Nero and buried on Vatican Hill. But his tomb had been lost to history. Now, funded anonymously by a wealthy American, a small army of workers embarked on the dig of a lifetime.

The Trigger tells the story of a young man who changed the world forever. It focuses on the drama of the incident itself by following Princip's journey. By retracing his steps from the feudal frontier village of his birth, through the mountains of the northern Balkans to the great plain city of Belgrade, and ultimately to Sarajevo, Tim Butcher illuminates our understanding of Princip and makes discoveries about him that have eluded historians for 100 years.

Same old stories. Watch youtube and save yourself the cost of this book plus the person reading this is dryer than a martini!
Sadly, I was immensely disappointed when I began listening to each chapter (location of terrifying or haunting places on earth) only to discover that the stories listed in this audiobook is the exact same stories you can hear about on a couple of youtube videos. I was actually hoping that considering it implied searching the history of terrifying and haunting locations throughout the world.
I can tell you that from personal experience as one who has travelled to over forty different countries, that there are many other places in which are considered haunted and terrifying. But instead, it would seem that for intents and purposes, that I could watch a couple of YouTube videos to perform research for writing a book such as this. Now I am not implying that is what the author in fact did. But am just stating as fact that the locations in this book have all been listed on youtube videos. along with the videos, the individuals who gave the descriptions for each location was far more captivating than the gentleman who read this book. His monotone voice along with the dry tone would be far better served reading audiobooks for people who suffer from insomnia. As after listening to his voice for less than 5 minutes, I either wanted to go to sleep or walk out into a busy intersection just to get away from the reader.
I am not one to write reviews such as this one. However, I felt an obligation to my fellow humans, if only to prevent them from suffering along with spending the money on such a book with both a dry monotone type of reader but also for the fact that each of these locations have been spoken of so often that they no longer provide neither the terrifying or haunting aspects that they once did.

Includes Little Known Places that are Horrific
This short book contains some fascinating information on some frightening places on earth. The author has extensive research, and several of the places mentioned here I had never heard of before. Unit 731 was simply horrific. Read and listen to find out more. There is a wealth of information here and it is both intriguing and disturbing. I read this book using immersion reading, while listening to the audiobook. Narrator Charles D Baker does a wonderful job bringing this book to life. I definitely will check out more of Mr. Bauer's books.
