The last thing Elizabeth needed in her life was a job taking care of an orphaned family. Especially when the children were unmanageable and the man was hostile.
Elizabeth Byler’s life had fallen to deep depression after the death of her fiancée. No longer able to undertake the most basic of tasks Elizabeth sleeps all day, or works with fury in her garden. When she is sent to Lancaster to help with a recently orphaned family, Elizabeth is dismayed believing she has become nothing but a burden to her Uncle.
Caleb Miller is a resentful, sullen and hateful young man, who blames his Amish community for the death of his parents, and the loss of his future. Eschewing all help, he is furious when a stranger is sent to his home to care for his siblings. He barely tolerates Elizabeth and counts the days until she leaves.
As Elizabeth and Caleb attempt to navigate their own painful paths, an uneasy truce develops and each must look into their souls to discover what it means to truly love.
