Fifteen-year-old Patrick Stone feels his relationship with Wendy has grown serious over the past several months, but now he questions if Wendy is really in love with him after all. Now that Wendy’s ex-boyfriend Stewart has reentered the picture, Patrick is no longer sure if Wendy is being faithful to him or not.

To make matters worse, someone has broken into Wendy’s mother’s house and stolen her most prized possession. That necklace—worthless to anyone else—is Wendy’s connection to her ancestral past involving a terrifying time and a forbidden relationship dating back to the American Civil War.

Now there are those with dark intentions who will stop at nothing to mete out justice for what they perceive to be the sins of Wendy’s ancestors. Stealing the necklace, however, was clearly not the intruder’s only message for Patrick and Wendy. The intruder also left something in its place. That object might be the very key to unlocking the mysteries surrounding not just Wendy’s family, but also Patrick’s connection to that family.

Now Patrick must try to find out the meaning of this bizarre exchange, as well as make right the wrongs of a terrible past filled with secrets that have haunted Wendy’s family for generations.
