Amazing Audio Performance

Super weird science fiction set in the near future that seemed oh so real to me. Some parts bordered on horror and language was edgy so this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was a very satisfying read at this moment in history. What woman would not want the power to shock the daylights out of someone (read: a man) with just her thoughts! Kudos to Naomi Alderman for her creative twists and turns and for making me see the world we live in now from a new angle. Would love to discuss this one with a friend over coffee or a glass of wine. Wanted to enjoy it more

So much potential for this premise, so woefully squandered. I really wanted to love this book, but between characters I didn't like, story that refused to go anywhere for the first 2/3 of the book, and painfully flat writing, I found myself just trudging through this one. by the time it finally caught my interest in the last few chapters, I was just ready for it to be over.

Mind= Blown

Best book I’ve read in a looong time. I was already recommending it to reader friends and to my 21yo daughter before I was halfway finished. The narrator was absolutely perfect!!

Fantastic! Relentless, vicious and gutsy!

First- best narration there is. Second- about a zillion times better than the series on Prime. The author is free, uncensored and without remorse. Yes, life on earth has been THIS BAD for women, and yes this tale nails that pain and the thirst for revenge. And the twist, the ending…the lesson! As Eve’s voice said, thinking there’s ’two’ is the problem. Masterpiece!

Thrills, Laughs, Terror

This is a wild tour de force of a novel. Interesting character, a rapid, compelling pace, a sprinkling of humour, and mind numbing horror are all part of the mix in this tale of power and the meaning of gender. Adjoa And on does an excellent job narrating, although her American accents could use a little work.
I kept thinking of how I would use this power and how others would be effected by it. Loved it.

Wonderful, darkly, thought-provoking

I love so many things about this book. All the feelings it’s stirred up in me, because even if they weren’t pleasant at times they are a sign of a great book. The layout, the viewpoints, the story, all of it is fantastic!

Would women use power differently them men?

I love the premise behind this book. At first you think it’s going to be a book extolling women but that isn’t it at all. It’s a challenge to the idea that women will treat power differently than men. It’s a story about power and how power corrupts. My favorite clip is a conversation in the future about how the world would be a more peaceful place if men were running the world instead of women, and that women are violent and men are nurturing by their natures. This book is a unique look that challenges how we think about gender roles. I really love books that challenge preconceived ideas and this fits the bill. Read it!!

Gender bending on an extreme level

What if somehow women gained an irreversible power over men? Would a better world emerge? Maybe... but the costs might be high, both personally and for humanity. Well written, likable - and hate able- characters. And well read.

A thought-provoking page turner

Loved this! So clever and so well performed on audio. Reading it is like a guilty pleasure - I’m recommending it to all my girlfriends. Alas, while as violent and fast-paced as any action hero movie, I don’t think many men will care for it. Too scary!!

great start but disappointing end

This increasingly interesting story must've been just too complicated for the author to figure out how to end without just pulling the plug. She leaves the reader confused, disappointed, & frustrated.
