Excellant Learning Resource for Autosuggestion

What did you love best about The Practice of Autosuggestion by the Method of Emile Coué?

I thought this would be a basic book about autosuggestion/hypnosis as regards Emile Coue. I was pleasantly surprised at the knowledge imparted about autosuggestion, and how readers may use this knowledge in their daily lives.

What did you like best about this story?

The story shows how a French doctor 100 years ago used Autosuggestion/Hypnosis to cure patients. Further, it goes on to show the reader how autosuggestion works and how to use it. Basically, anyone interested in Autosuggestion and Hypnosis need to read this book. It will be the best money you spent on getting real and practical information on this subject.

What about Jack Chekijian’s performance did you like?

Jack really got into the subject. I could tell by the voicing that the subject matter was compelling to Jack. For some people Autosuggestion may not have an appeal. Once you get into it, it is fascinating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was amazed at the depth of content in a three and a half hour audio book. Frankly, for me to absorb it, I needed to reflect after reading each chapter. I am sure I will re-read some of these chapters again.

Any additional comments?

Disclaimer, I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. I have a Certification as a Master Hypnotist, so when I saw this book, I decided to see what I could learn from it. Surprisingly, the practice of autosuggestion from 100 years ago formed the basis of autosuggestion used today. If you go back in time, Franz Anton Mesmer popularized "animal suggestion". Later, French physicians, such as Emile Coue, refined the practice of autosuggestion and hypnosis. In the 1930's stage hypnosis became a fad, which was looked down upon by the medical profession. Milton Erickson, a famous psychologist, took hypnosis and autosuggestion to another level. In the 50's, 60's and 70's Dave Elman took the study and practice of hypnosis to a whole other level. The course I took in the 1980's was based on the Elman technique. In reading the Emile Coue book I surprisingly saw the basis for autosuggestion today. In the noted autosuggestion phrase, "In every way, I am getting better". This is a stock phrase in use today. Why? Because it works! What makes this book even better is the way it describes how suggestions work, what does not work, and what to expect. In listening to this audiobook, you not only get an interesting "read", you are actually getting a good course in autosuggestion. There was a fad several years ago, surrounding "The Secret". As I understand it, "The Secret" was based on positive thinking toward an objective will insure you will reach that objective. Sound familiar. Good old autosuggestion. Amazing how the old discovery becomes the new discovery. If you want the straight facts about autosuggestion, get this book!

thoroughly informative...

I was gifted this audio-book in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. This book is quite informative on the issues of autosuggestion. Many different looks at how to get people to get over issues and / or habits with the power of autosuggestion, similar to hypnosis (but not the same). Even has documented situations where people have gotten over diseases and cancer.

I feel the author, C Harry Brooks is very thorough on the issue and does it in an interesting way not to lose the readers. The narrator, Jack Chekijian did a great job with the narration. he spoke clearly enough for me to keep up with and understand what he was saying. Weel done to both of you.

Perhaps historically interesting

As the title suggests, this book is about the practice of autosuggestion. The method is covered in detail and several examples are given as to how to use it in day to day life. Emile Coue used autosuggestion to treat many physical ailments and examples of the progress of many of his patients are sprinkled throughout the book.

From a historical point of view, this book could be interesting. Today, we know so much more about the placebo affect and how it can and does affect the health of people. So I think much of this book is now out dated. Also, I have to point out my own reservations about the power of the mind, using any method, to permanently cure injuries and illnesses. So it is with some skepticism that I dove into this book. However, I do like the central message of ‘Have a positive attitude’

While this book isn’t one for me, others might find it interesting especially if they are finding it difficult to stay positive concerning a health issue. This book does provide a structured way to tackle that. So, coupled with the historical aspect, the book was a little interesting.

I received a copy of this book at no charge from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

Narration: Jack Chekijian did a nice job. The text didn’t require different voices or such but Chekijian gave a nice reporter-like performance.

Autosuggeston

Any additional comments?

This is an interesting audiobook to listen to. It may work for some people but it's not practical to some. All in all it's a good idea.

a good idea for a book

What did you like best about The Practice of Autosuggestion by the Method of Emile Coué? What did you like least?

the idea of autosuggestion is very appealing (if it is proved to be truly effective )
yet the main issue here is the lack of the scientific studies , all the author uses as a prove for efficiency is people stories and letters (which is not enough to prove this theory)

Would you be willing to try another book from C. Harry Brooks? Why or why not?

i dont think i will try another book without a scientific method to prove his points of views

What does Jack Chekijian bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

i think i continued with this book because of the narration , Jack Chekijian did an amazing job delivering the ideas in a calm and suitable voice , i found myself taken sometime by how good he can convince you and make you believe the ideas he is narrating

Did The Practice of Autosuggestion by the Method of Emile Coué inspire you to do anything?

i think i want to try this method next time i go to the dentist :)

Any additional comments?

somehow i believe this theory just apply to a certain kind of people (suggestible people ) just like hypnotism , while it doesn't affect people who is reality oriented , but i need to do a study to prove that.
