Resumen del Editor

Here—for the first time since they were initially published in the Golden Age of Pulp Western Fiction—are three novels and five short stories by the likes of R.S. Lerch, H.C. Early, Van Cort and others, all writing at the top of their creative games to satisfy what was an unquenchable market for western heroes and outlaws.

This third volume in The Pulp Western Anthology series has set these tales in a clean, new typeface and presented them with the artwork that originally accompanied them.

Hot Lead for Gleaming Rails is a well-crafted tale of empire building, crooked politics and blazing guns. It was written by Van Cort—a pseudonym of Wyatt Rainey Blassingame (1909-1985), one of the genre’s most prolific and authentic writers. This novel has not seen the light of day since it was originally published in Street and Smith’s Western Story Magazine on August 7, 1937, and has not lost any of its ability to entertain.

The Oath of Bill Bonney is a romanticized novel of Billy the Kid, by H.C. Early. Mr. Early’s novel, which smoothly marries known fact and rich imagination, was a late entry in the life of Famous Western magazine (October 1957). All the familiar real-life characters are here—John Tunstall, Alexander McSween, Charlie Bowdre, Bob Olinger, Pat Garrett, Gov. Lew Wallace—working as a backdrop to the violent life of Billy the Kid.

The Gun-Devils by Roger Sherman Lerch (1890-1953) is a tale of rustling and deceit. It was published in the August 1949 edition of Complete Western Book Magazine(/i>. And since this novel is just a tad bit shorter than the other novels in the book, we have provided five short stories by Howard E. Morgan, George Cory Franklin, G. Vander Merwe, Gurthrie Brown and Hugh Grinstead.
