Resumen del Editor
Wall Street Journal Bestseller
In this groundbreaking book, New York Times bestselling author Steven Kotler decodes the mystery of ultimate human performance. Drawing on over a decade of research and first-hand reporting with dozens of top action and adventure sports athletes like big wave legend Laird Hamilton, big mountain snowboarder Jeremy Jones, and skateboarding pioneer Danny Way, Kotler explores the frontier science of “flow”, an optimal state of consciousness in which we perform and feel our best.
Building a bridge between the extreme and the mainstream, The Rise of Superman explains how these athletes are using flow to do the impossible and how we can use this information to radically accelerate performance in our own lives.
At its core, this is a book about profound possibility; about what is actually possible for our species; about where - if anywhere - our limits lie.

The trained sniper is a complex fusion of hard skills such as weapons knowledge, situational awareness, knowledge of ballistics and physics, and soft skills such as emotional stability, empathy, and a stoic acceptance of the hardships associated with a particular set of circumstances. There are countless instances where a single sniper, embarking on a secret mission, would have to improvise, operate beyond any hope of support, and yet still manage to carry out the mission and get back home unharmed.

The emergence of strange new diseases is a frightening problem that seems to be getting worse. In this age of speedy travel, it threatens a worldwide pandemic. We hear news reports of Ebola, SARS, AIDS, and something called Hendra killing horses and people in Australia - but those reports miss the big truth that such phenomena are part of a single pattern. Historia
Even now, after more than 15 years, it is hard to see the invasion of Iraq through the cool, considered gaze of history. For too many people, the damage is still too palpable, and still unfolding. Most of the major players in that decision are still with us, and few of them are not haunted by it, in one way or another. Perhaps it's that combination, the passage of the years and the still unresolved trauma, that explains why so many protagonists opened up so fully for the first time to Robert Draper.

Historia
In the 1850s, the young Frederick Law Olmsted was adrift, a restless farmer and dreamer in search of a mission. He found it as an undercover correspondent in the South for the up-and-coming New York Times. For the Connecticut Yankee, pen name "Yeoman", the South was alien, often hostile territory. Yet Olmsted traveled for 14 months, by horseback, steamboat, and stagecoach, seeking dialogue and common ground. Tony Horwitz rediscovers Yeoman Olmsted amidst the discord and polarization of our own time. Is America still one country?

Bassem Youssef's incendiary satirical news program, Al-Bernameg ( The Program), chronicled the events of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, the fall of President Hosni Mubarak, and the rise of Mubarak's successor, Mohamed Morsi. Youssef not only captured his nation's dissent, but stamped it with his own brand of humorous political criticism, in which the Egyptian government became the prime laughing stock. In Revolution for Dummies, Youssef recounts his life and offers hysterical riffs on hypocrisy, instability, and corruption.

The murder of Abraham Lincoln set off the greatest manhunt in American history. From April 14 to April 26, 1865, the assassin, John Wilkes Booth, led Union cavalry and detectives on a wild 12-day chase through the streets of Washington, DC, across the swamps of Maryland, and into the forests of Virginia while the nation, still reeling from the just-ended Civil War, watched in horror and sadness.

The remarkable stories of the world's most famous body parts. All too often, historical figures feel distant and abstract; more myth and legend than real flesh and blood. These stories of bodies and its parts remind us that history's most-loved, and most-hated, were real breathing creatures who inhabited organs and limbs just like us - until they're cut off that is. Medical historian Dr Suzie Edge investigates over 40 cases of how we've used, abused, dug up, displayed, experimented on, and worshipped body parts.

Exceptional book about the neuroscience of flow!
This book is brilliant and it always fires me up when I listen to it. This is one of my favourite things to listen to on my 5 + hour training runs or rides or walks. I love to learn about how the neurotransmitters affect perception and how I can use them to improve in what I already love to do.

Love the content but that narrator....
Big fan of the insights that Steven Kotler and his cohorts put out. Their research on the flow state opens up a diverse dialogue on how our mindspace expands with AI technology. What's surprising about the book is how much of this research fails to be a part of the mainstream. The capabilities we're reaching now is accelerating faster than ever in the course of history.
Its thought-provoking to think that some of the super abilities we see in movies is close to being a reality. This would solve major conditions like Alzheimer's, paralyzation, communication disorders, mortality, neurological enhancement, etc. The book delves into our past and the implications of playing God in the future.
Please keep in mind, I'm not insulting the narrator's ability to do his job, but the method of delivery was distracting. There are times when I feel like I'm listening to George Carlin narrating Thomas the Tank Engine when he impersonates the voices. The narrator's style doesn't match with the content he's reading.
Overall - The book is a great read, highly recommended if your'e interested in how the mind and body have evolved, and are interested in technology and how it will make us super heroes, definitely worth it. Good luck getting past the narrator though...

Enough with the stories!
I liked the first story about how extreme athletes use flow to survive their incredible acts of bravery but was worn out by all the rest. Far too many stories that told us what the first story told us. The rest of the book was great. The science was solid and easy to understand and the topic of flow hacking is riveting. Very exciting to hear how much can be done with flow. This is a great book if you are interested in the neuroscience behind flow buy not if you are looking for actual steps on how to hack flow. Overall, I am glad I read it.

A potential quantum leap in productivity
This book looks at early current scientific findings and potential benefits AND risks associated with achieving and utilizing flow states. This research has, in my opinion, the power to impact thousands of lives in the future. Keep researching! 5/28/2023GJBrownDO 19:48 Eastern

The performance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good delivery by the reader. Kotler, the author obviously has a passion about the mechanics of flow and the application to extreme sport performance. He goes further to explain how flow is used in all areas of life which makes this read relatable to everyone.
