For the first time in history, The Rule of Saint Benedict in an audiobook version in English is read by the Abbot Primate of the Benedictine Confederation, the Right Rev. Gregory J. Polan. This unique recording was made at the Primatial Abbey of Sant'Anselmo in Rome.
Saint Benedict, one of the truly distinguished monastic leaders raised up by God, made an incalculable imprint on the Christian call to holiness of life and on human civilization itself. Many miracles have been attributed to Saint Benedict, founder of the Abbey of Montecassino and the Benedictine Order. Saint Gregory the Great claimed that the most important and lasting miracle was the drafting, around 530 AD, of his spiritual legacy, known as The Rule of Saint Benedict.
The Rule as a whole encourages love, prayer, work, respect, chastity, humility, silence, moderation and obedience.
"Listen carefully, my son, to the master's instructions, and attend to them with the ear of your heart. This is advice from a father who loves you; welcome it, and faithfully put it into practice. The labor of obedience will bring you back to him from whom you had drifted through the sloth of disobedience. This message of mine is for you, then, if you are ready to give up your own will, once and for all, and armed with the strong and noble weapons of obedience to do battle for the true King, Christ the Lord."
