Resumen del Editor

The Safety Effect will help you replicate the conditions shared by Google's most effective teams.

Psychological safety is the primary driver of team effectiveness at Google, more important than seniority, individual team member performance, and hundreds of other variables. When we work in a psychologically safe workplace, we comfortably share ideas for improvement, ask for help when we need it, and celebrate our successes. We proactively identify and solve challenges while educating each other about what has worked well, helping us to regularly reach and exceed our goals. As a result, each of us is happier, our teams are more productive and our companies thrive.

Psychological safety seems simple and might feel like common sense, but it can be incredibly difficult to implement. Despite decades of research showing its benefits within Google and across industries, companies continue to fail to create psychologically safe spaces. Employee happiness and team performance suffer, inhibiting many companies from realizing their potential greatness.

Author David Moerlein was a top rated manager at Google for more than a decade, leading hundreds of people across ten global offices. In The Safety Effect, David invites you into a world of psychological safety. His stories and Google-proven tools inspire personal reflection and promote action within and beyond our teams, helping each of us to achieve increased happiness, productivity and success.

Great insights!

I got a lot out of this book. The core insight—that innovation and collaboration flourish when individuals feel safe to share their ideas without fear—will be familiar to many, but in my experience, we need so much more of this in our personal and professional lives. Listening to this book really brought it home to me how important it is to create that environment of safety. Moerlein looks at every scale—the personal, the team, the enterprise—and provides practical advice for how to promote psychological safety that I found immensely useful. Recommended for anyone interested in building stronger teams and organizations.
