Fun Story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Three Musketeers to be better than the print version?

I never read the print version.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the ending, but I will not share that with you.

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have listen to about 30 books read by John Lee. I love his voice. He does not change his voice much when switching between characters and for some reason I find this lack of strong change more soothing then readers who constantly change their voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were many parts of the story that were very funny.

Any additional comments?

If you are looking another Count of Monte Cristo, like I was, this is not it, so I was disappointed by that, but once I got into the story I really enjoy it.

Good listening, especially on long car trip

Great story that is narrated very well, but there are spots of declining audio quality. Not sure if it is technical problems, recording problems, or the narrator is just tired. This is a great listen when you are on the road, you can tune in and out without losing the story and the adventurous suspense. Dumas is a great writer!

First audiobook

This was my first audiobook, and it was great! Very well narrated. Would recommend to anyone who likes the classics.

What made the experience of listening to The Three Musketeers the most enjoyable?

I used the feature that allows me to read or listen to a book. I originally read this book a long time ago, and I had a difficult time. However, after listening to the reader with his great voice and manner, I got into the story, even when I was reading it myself. I like the feature that I can touch a word when I'm reading the eBook and I get a definition or Wikipedia listing. Sometimes I read along with the audiobook reader. I'm moving out of the country and I'm packing my "hard-copy" books as I catalog them, using "Goodreads"; so now the eBooks are the right thing for me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I especially liked Aramis, because I, too was a seminarian.

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

I especially liked the way John Lee portrayed Athos fatherly manner.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book is too long to listen to in one sitting.

This is my first venture into the latest technology of syncronizing my desktop, my iPad,my iPhone with eBook and audioBook.

Truely a classic, and EXCELLENTLY narated!

What did you love best about The Three Musketeers?

Alexandre Dumas was a master at creating fun and memorable characters, and there's a reason that his Musketeers have been so enduring. Also, John Lee's narration is perfect for the time period and subject matter, and compliments the characters personalities perfectly.

What did you like best about this story?

The dramas and interactions between the characters were fun, and the situations they found themselves in were very entertaining.

Which scene was your favorite?

D'Artagnan's love affair with Mylady was especially funny.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could sit still for so many hours in a row, absolutely!

I read the novel as a child but I enjoyed it again

And now I mentioned the other historical circumstances. I was inspired to make a little surway about hugenots and La Rochelle.

loved the story and detail! narrated with amazing manner to all characters involved! would reccomend to all who like classic stories

Not what I expected (which was a good thing)

Much better than any movie adaptation I've seen (isn't the book always better?!). There are better reviews out there than mine. I will say I enjoyed the momentary comparison of D'Artagnan to Don Quixote (the influence of Cervantes is felt in many parts of the book). While I was surprised that so much of the book was given to Milady and her escape, I found that story to be perhaps the most compelling part of the book.

My only complaint on this book is the recording. The reader is fine but the audio is overmodulated at some spots, especially when John Lee raises his voice. That's not on Mr. Lee but on the sound engineer. Other than that, I can recommend this book to anyone. Enjoy!

A classic for a reason

It is hard to believe that so many movies were made from this book, while all of them pretty much followed the same formula of cutting out the entire second half. While it's easy to see how the book could have been shortened by cutting words all over that are totally superfluous, how the entire intrigue with Milady is never present could only be the result of making the story more "PG" for audiences. It takes what is a tragedy at its heart an turns it to something much more palatable for general audiences. I grew up watching the movies of this and love them then, but now that I've read the book, my tragic sense of humor favors the full story more.

this book is a classic for a reason and it was performed excellently.

I never knew the musketeers to be the flawed characters that they are, but I very much enjoyed their tale with its highs and its lows :)
