Resumen del Editor

CNN aviation correspondent Richard Quest offers a gripping and definitive account of the disappearance of Malaysian Airline Flight MH370 in March 2014.

On March 8, 2014, Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappeared with barely a trace, carrying 239 people onboard - seemingly vanishing into the dark night. The airplane's whereabouts and fate would quickly become one of the biggest aviation mysteries of our time....

Richard Quest, CNN's aviation correspondent, was one of the leading journalists covering the story. In a coincidence, Quest had interviewed one of the two pilots a few weeks before the disappearance. It is here that he begins his gripping account of those tense weeks in March, presenting a fascinating chronicle of an international search effort that, despite years of searching and tens of millions of dollars spent, has failed to find the plane.

Quest dissects what happened in the hours following the plane's disappearance and chronicles the days and weeks of searching, which led to nothing but increasing despair. He takes apart the varying responses from authorities and the discrepancies in reports, the wide range of theories, the startling fact that the plane actually turned around and flew in the opposite direction, and what solutions the aviation industry must now implement to ensure it never happens again.

What emerges is a riveting chronicle of a tragedy that continues to baffle everyone from aviation experts to satellite engineers to politicians - and which to this day worries the traveling public that it could happen again.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“From day one, Richard Quest’s reporting on the mysterious disappearance of MH370 gripped our CNN viewers around the world. His new book now tells the story behind the story with clarity and precision. His expertise on aviation comes through on every page. What also comes through is his passion for uncovering the truth. Even if you think you know a lot about the greatest aviation mystery of our time, you must read The Vanishing of Flight MH370.” (Wolf Blitzer, CNN anchor)

The Vanishing of Flight MH370 is as enthralling as it is accurate. Nobody tells the unfinished story better than CNN Aviation Editor Richard Quest, who was pivotal in getting the Malaysians to make public more details of the disappearance. His book makes compelling reading even though, at the time of publishing, we have yet to find the Boeing 777.” (Geoffrey Thomas, editor in chief of AirlineRatings.com)

“Richard Quest was at the forefront of the MH370 coverage for CNN. His knowledge and experience helped many to understand how industry, governments and individual people responded to a situation for which there was no precedent. His book presents unique insight into the challenges that the media faced in doing their job. It’s great reading.” (Tony Tyler, director general, International Air Transport Association)

Truly Excellent Book

If you could sum up The Vanishing of Flight MH370 in three words, what would they be?

accurate interesting compelling

What does Richard Quest bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Attention to detail and accurate reporting

Any additional comments?

I picked this book based on the recommendation of Patrick Smith of ASK THE PILOT fame.
I chose this book with a bit of trepidation having only a little exposure to Richard Quest, that being a Daily Show segment on a Royal Wedding or some British pageantry.
As it turned out this is one of the best aviation books I've ever read/heard. I was also worried about his exuberant style of speech detracting from the narration, but it was in fact great.
Mr Quest went from being pretty low on my egard scale to near the top.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in quality journalism, told compellingly.

Super Informative

This specific flight tragedy has always troubled me. I have tried several times to get through the details without getting upset. The magnificent Richard Quest has, as always, brought great clarity to the situation. You not only learn about the tragedy (at least what is allowed to be known) you also get a deep dive into aviation history past and present.

A bonus is his very comforting voice and the fact it’s free of a lot of opinion. It’s filled with facts and guidance to help one make sense of the senseless. Very grateful for this book. It has provided a peace of mind vs. leaving one wondering what the heck...

Cheers.

laborious

Narrator's accent so distracting...too technical in nature
Wanted to hear about the families and their search for their loved ones...
exhausting to listen to..

Get To The Point!!!!!

Let me say I have no feelings towards journalists positive or negative. BUT! This guy spends 70% of this book wacking himself off talking about how other journalists make random conjecture in these situations and he is apparently above that, yet always admitting that he fell right into that trap most of the time during this situation. He goes in depth about his somewhat shallow “connection” to this incident, as if that’s what I’m here for. GET OVER YOURSELF AND TALK ABOUT THE FACTS. What did I learn? This guy thinks he’s god, there were various shortcomings in the investigation and no one knows what happened.

Just a Painful Listen, Droning On, And On

Richard Quest is generally informative and entertaining on CNN but he clearly needs an editor when writing a book. A few hours into The Vanishing of Flight MH370 this reader vanished from the audio screen. Probably never to resurface because I crashed into the abyss listing to Quest's overly dramatic, horrifyingly repetitive prose. Probably like the passengers of Flight MH370, I felt like 12-year-old girl (Linda Blair) in the 1973 file, The Exorcist, screaming "Mommy, make it stop!"). And it's too bad, I bought the Audible book to find out what happened to that plane but my curiosity was worn-down by the hand-wringing, and generally unimportant and endless details. So, this is a rare an unfinished listen.

waste of time how CNN fills time

No real new information, more about how CNN fills in time than actual information

Don't waste your time

I thought this was going to be a book about MH370, I could not have been more wrong. The main storyline of this book is about the authors life and how brilliant he finds himself. I found his opinions about the media dumbing down its news coverage for us non journalists to be particularly insulting. Worst book, worst author I've encountered in some time.
