Resumen del Editor

When love arrives in the form of an angel, who knew she would be the season’s most infamous thief?

Mr. Gilbert Fernley has never been a jealous man. As the local vicar, Gilbert finds joy in preparing sermons and tending his flock. Everything in his life seems perfect until he realizes his twin brother has discovered the secret to happiness. Jealous of his brother’s recent marriage, Gilbert allows his new sister to play matchmaker.

Miss Eliza Davenport spends her days as an outcast of Society. Eliza’s family came by their wealth through trade and not inheritance. When an offer arrives to boost her position, Eliza accepts without thinking through the possible consequences. Caught in a web of thefts and lies, Eliza discovers she is a pawn in a game she cannot win.

With the machinations of his family, Gilbert spends the season in London courting various women only to discover the women he loves has a secret that could destroy any chance of her accepting a man whose profession is that of a vicar.

The Vicar and the Thief is a stand-alone novel in this series by author Angela Johnson. This is a sweet Regency-era romance.

So Wonderful

EDIT - I added my review on the book to this because it’s basically my same thoughts. This was the first book I read in the series and loved it. I had no idea. There were three books before this one, and I had intended to read them, but they were already an audiobook. My favorite brother is Archie and Fletcher (I cannot wait for his story to be turned into an audiobook). Grace Noble did an excellent job.

This is the first time I’ve read anything written by this author, and I adored this book. I love books written in this Era. I am a huge Jane Austen fan, and this reminded me of her books. Gilbert is the kind of man I would love to date someday. I loved how gentle and protective he was toward Eliza, even when he found out that she was the thief.

When I read the title of this book, I had no idea that the story would take me to a different place than what I originally thought. I found myself feeling sorry for Eliza, especially when she was treated so badly. It’s hard to believe that there was a time when people were treated differently because of the classes in society.

I wish I had known about this series because I missed the previous three books. I’ll have to take time to go back and read the other ones but it doesn’t make any difference because you still can read this as a standalone. This is a very wholesome book. It’s nice to read a book that doesn’t have any profanity in it or open door situations.
