Acerca de esta escucha

In a land sculpted by glaciers, the forest is on fire. Thick smoke chokes the mountain air and casts a twilight glow over the imposing mountains and vistas of Montana's Glacier National Park. When firefighters are called in to dig fuel line breaks near the small town bordering the park, a crew member is shocked to unearth a shallow grave containing human remains.

Park police officer Monty Harris is summoned to the site to conduct an excavation. But with a 2,500-degree incendiary monster threatening to barrel through the town and no forensic detective on hand, Monty must work outside protocol. So he seeks help from Gretchen Larson, the county's lead crime scene investigator and someone on whom Monty feels he can rely.

The two are working against the clock to determine the true identity of the victim when a teenager suddenly disappears from one of the campgrounds in Glacier. Could the cases somehow be connected? As chances for recovery of the missing boy grow slimmer and the FBI finds only dead ends, Gretchen and Monty desperately race to fit all the pieces together in time.

The Weight of Night is Christine Carbo's latest book in a series that "paints a moving picture of complex, flawed people fighting to make their way in a wilderness where little is black or white" (Publishers Weekly). This gripping thriller is a tribute to the power of family, set against one of America's most majestic and unforgiving landscapes.

Great series

Really enjoy this series. If you like Nevada Barr and others authors who write mysteries set in our beautiful state parks, you'll enjoy this series as well.

Its worth the listen but...

Would you listen to The Weight of Night again? Why?

I would not listed to this story again, but only because its not a complicated story....so it's not like I missed anything the first time

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect of the story was the missing boys...the least interesting was the background history of Gretchen

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I love R.C. Bray, he did a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him...Sarah Mollo-Christensen is certainly talented but the fake Norwegian accent made me INSANE! How about just leave that out. It made it too hard to listen to at times. Even my young son begged me to put my headphones in so he didn't have to listen to her. My apologies if Sarah is Norwegian and the accent isn't fake but either way it really took away from the story for me. Well that and I didn't care about Gretchen and her past. I feel like the author was really pulling at straws to come up with this weird backstory for her. For heaven's sake it was just too dramatic and didn't add to the overall story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No this is a book that I would not do all in one sitting .... it was good but not that good.

Any additional comments?

I like the glacier series and I really cannot wait for Christine Carbo to write more....so this is a must read if you like the series...Its just not as good as the other two....but hey that happens sometimes....I am just grateful that author's keep coming up with stories and have the courage to write them...

Not crazy about the ultimate plot

Would you consider the audio edition of The Weight of Night to be better than the print version?

I really liked the first 2/3's of the book but it seemed a bit silly the last quarter.

Enjoyed it and could “feel” the flames

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and appreciated the way things were written so you could see, feel and hear what was going on. I downloaded more by this author because of this book.

Good story but weird Audio

So its a decent who done it murder novel. But what I dont understand is why one character has two different readers “voices”. So when the character speaks its the voice of one person “RC Bray”. But when you hear the inner monologue of another character, and she is spoken to the voice isnt RC Bray anymore. For like 4 hours I thought its was an entirely different person. Why would they make some one have 2 different voices!? Weather you speak to someone or they hear you speak its all the same person in real life. Im so confused with this book. Basically in short the Cop “main character” has two different dudes reading for him depending on who he is talking to…..
