Acerca de esta escucha

The job sounded simple enough. Rid the village of an ogre and rescue the girl. In return, the local lord would overlook that ugly business in the church. It was nothing he hadn’t dealt with before.

That was before he heard the howls coming from the Bog of Móin Alúin. Before he crossed paths with the headless rider. Before he woke to find the witch’s crooked fingers on his face.

Now, Berengar must unravel the labyrinth of secrets and lies surrounding the village before a deadly curse claims his life, all while a darker evil looms in the shadows....

My favorite downtrodden orc of the year

The Wrath of Lords by Kyle Alexander Romines is an epic fantasy book that is written just how I like an epic fantasy book to be written. It's not an RPG lit (even though the plotline reads very much like a single player RPG game) even though it has all the classic parts to one: a MC that has good intentions but suffered a mighty blow/event, a quest to make amends for his actions, a daring rescue, mythical beasts to slaughter, AN EVIL BOG HAG, horrible NPCs that are literally no help. Now, throw in a fantastically built world, with amazing descriptions, and some tugging of your heartstrings and we have this amazing book. Truly one of my favorite books that I've listened to this year.

The narration by Matt Addis is superb. He's one of those narrators whose voice has you searching out other books he's narrated rather than searching for authors and hoping you run across his voice again. Voices, emotion, accents - he has them all down 100%. Another narrator might not have been able to do this as much justice as Matt Addis has done.

I've already purchased the next book and cannot wait to continue!

I requested this book from the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Reminds me of DnD

I really enjoyed this book. The story reminded me of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The characters are motivated by their own self interests, and they don't always make the 'right' decision. The story isn't deep, but it isn't boring and it gives plenty of allusions to other stories that can be fleshed out in the same world.

I especially enjoyed the writing style and the narration. I will definitely check out the sequel.

What a fun read!

What a fun book to listen to! with the video game style storyline where you are given big quest and have to complete a bunch of little quest along the way and then there was the Headless Horseman and a werewolf lol who would have thought it! but I did like it! ** I was given this book for free in exchange for my unbiased opinion**

Sometimes a regent needs someone who will do anything

So what happens when a queen needs wardens to guard the land? She take the best, the brightest, the most virtuous. And one other as well. One whose deeds are as dark as the night before the moon comes out. One whose mere presence invokes fear in the people. Most tales are about those good and virtuous folk. This is not. This is the tale of a bear of a man with a heart like stone and some of his adventuress. Villains by necessity are my favorite kind and this doesn’t disappoint Very well written narrated. Enjoy it as much as I did. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Way too short, I want more!

I really enjoyed this book, the protagonist is awesome, bad, and deep. I had no idea how he was going to get himself out of the mess, and I want to find out more about this world. I look forward to the next one!

Action Packed Fantasy with a Cool Main Character

The Wrath of Lords was very well done fantasy novel. It follows the character of Ebon Berengar who is a Warden of Fal. He is one of the main five protectors of the realm(the wardens) who were appointed by the queen and only answer to her. Berengar is a huge man with a pretty bad reputation in the realm being feared and hated by most inhabitants of the realm. The book begins with him hunting down an outlaw and he will not rest until he has captured and killed him. In doing this he gets himself in a bit of PR nightmare and to smooth things over he agrees to help the Lord of the territory in finding his niece and killing the Troll that abducted her. This leads him on a long quest which keeps getting more complicated especially after he is cursed by Bog Witch and needs to find a cure or solution to it or he will die within 3 days. Berengar's back story is pretty interesting and he doesn't seem to be a bad guy but he also doesn't have any problem dealing out justice or doing what needs to be done and does have a bit of a blood lust.

The narration by Matt Addis was great and really fits the story and characters, I really enjoyed his voice and accents. I would recommend this book and look forward to future installments in the series and finding out more about Berengar in the process.

Great story and narration

I really enjoyed this story. A dark fantasy, with mysterious aspects. I can't wait to read more in the main character story. The author says at the end of the book that there will be more stand alone stories in the series which I think is a great idea for fantasy. Highly recommend

Decent mystery set in generic fantasy

The story was pretty decent. The author does a good job telling their tale and doesn't get super wordy in their descriptions, which is nice. The mystery elements of the story were pretty well done and not overly obvious as to the directions of things. This is not a fantasy novel though. Sure, it is set on a fantasy world with Goblins, Hags and Heroes, the setting takes a back seat to the rest of the story.

The narration was done well enough to keep me entertained. While they do a good job with adding accents to characters and trying to have different voices for each, I found from time to time then getting sightly blurred together. Even still, I had no issue following along.

A fantastic introduction

To keep it short and spoiler free:

The narrator did a great job. I loved the different voices which, for some reason, is often missing in fiction works.

The story was very good, the characters fantastic and the writing well done. The side plots never took away from the main task, and remained interesting on their own while building up to the conclusion. This served as a great introduction to a series that I look forward to reading, or listening, more of.
