Acerca de esta escucha

Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon are back for another irreverent, liberal, twisty, time-travel comedy! This time they have Jesus Christ, the actual guy, on their side.

The timeline correction Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon accomplished in their first episode was successful.... Or was it? When the two humans and their Krichard friends, Chrissie and Tina, return to year 2020 Earth to verify the change, they find an advanced, peaceful planet.

The four friends move into Marty’s new timeline home and the next morning head out for a flying car tour of Oodlelakeolis. The city, which was Minneapolis in the previous timeline, is beautiful from the air, but when they swoop down to land, the Colorless Ones, a cult of religious extremists from the planet Krichardia, reverse the timeline change and abduct Chrissie and Tina.

Instantly, President Handley is back to dropping nuclear bombs, and once again, Marty and Nellie must find a way to stop him.

Our heroes take the time-traveling Chromosphere Cruiser back to AD 31, with plans to restore the advanced timeline. Unfortunately, an unexpected event forces them to return to the year 2020, but they have a stowaway - Jesus Christ!

Can Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon save the world and rescue Tina and Chrissie with snark being their only superpower? Can a dark-skinned Jesus with a fondness for profanity and a disdain for religious hypocrisy thrive in the 21st century? And who are the Soldiers of the White Jesus? These questions and more will be answered in this unforgettable episode.

Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again! is a hilarious, thought-provoking satire with unpredictable twists, colorful and colorless aliens, the outrageous Holy Smokin’ Hot Nellie, and a juicy role for Jesus Christ, the actual guy!

Each novel in the Time Is Irreverent series stands alone, and a humorous prologue quickly gets listeners up to date.

Publisher's warning: This novel is intended for a liberal audience and is not recommended for conservative listeners.

Reseñas de la Crítica

Five stars: "For those aficionados of entertaining, optimistic sci-fi, who have been avidly waiting for another Time Is Irreverent adventure - your wait is over. It was a relief to read for a change a sci-fi novel not mired in the hopelessly depressive, dystopian formula that seems to be the fashion these days. Marty Essen has cleverly structured his novel to present a mildly humorous look at aliens, time travel and politics while at the same time examining some of the crucial issues that confront society today. He takes a sideways look at the close relationship between supposedly Christian churches and political parties, the shady connections between politicians and big business, and the resultant plundering of our planet’s resources. He makes one of the most intelligent comments I have come across regarding American gun control where he observes that when the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment, they could not have known that muskets would eventually be replaced by modern semi-automatic assault rifles. Whether the observation is original or not, it got this resident of Scotland, who has never handled a gun, thinking on the issue. Marty Essen has produced a fine follow-up to his first time traveling escapade and I hope that the likeable characters he has created will get many future outings. A great addition to a currently gloomy, pessimistic genre. I do not hesitate to recommend it." (Charles Remington, Readers’ Favorite Book Reviews)

“An excellent follow-up to the original, and this from someone who typically hates sequels! All the same great characters and more, plus Jesus--although not your mama’s Jesus. The funny is funnier, the crazy crazier, and the politics even more in your face (in the good way!) If you loved the first, you’ve got to read the second. Well done, Marty!”--Jeff Abugov, writer, producer, director, and Golden Globe Award, Peabody Award, and People’s Choice Award-winner

Time Is Irreverent 2 is a madcap blasphemous comedy of the most delightful sort. Recommended for those whose tastes incline that way; if you loved Time Is Irreverent, run, don’t walk, to consume this perfect sequel.” (Tom Flynn, Editor Free Inquiry magazine)

Irreverent but funny

Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again!
I loved this book and laughed frequently throughout it's length. Funny, entertaining, and captivating just as this genre should be.
I am waiting for book 3 and only hope it will be soon.
Great entertainment I highly recommend it.

Even better than the first book!

For me, to say that this sequel was even better than first is really saying something. I loved the first book, and I was near enthralled with this one. That said, if you're a fan of our popular vote loser president, you are not going to like this book. You're also not likely to enjoy it if you have homophobic tendencies or believe that the bible is the absolute literal word of a supreme being.

If, however, you come to this book with an open mind and a sense of humor, I think you'll find that, like the first volume, it's an absolute hoot! This is really good, cutting edge satire!

This was a great book to listen to in the car. The plot was fast moving, and I enjoyed the narration. I hope that the author pens a third volume to the series.

I received an audible credit in exchange for this honest review. If I hadn't, after I read the first book, I would have gladly used one of my own. Enjoy.

Liberal listeners only. HILARIOUS!!

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

This book is liberally hilarious! This is book 2 on the Time is Irreverent series. I have NOT listened to the first book yet but I’m definitely adding it to my bookshelf. While the stories go together, there was enough “quick catch up” synopsis at the beginning and scattered throughout the book that it does well as a stand alone.

If you’re not politically Liberal, you won’t really like this book, so don’t bother getting it. Do, however, give it to your liberal friends and family as gifts. They will appreciate it. The president of the USA is a mirror image of Trump, and of course the heroes are trying to thwart his evil nuclear plans via time travel and Jesus.

There are 4 heroes in this story: 2 Krichardian aliens & 2 American humans...and of course they’re all dating. It’s not a 4-some; there are 2 pairs, each with a human & alien. Our humans are Marty Mann & Nellie Dixon, and our Krichardians are Chrissy & Tina. 1 straight couple, 1 lesbian couple. The dynamics are great. This book is over-the-top stereotypic liberalism, and it made me laugh constantly.

The adventures they had in book 1 are alluded to, so we have an inkling that they’ve already saved the day in a big time way. They’re in their spaceship, flying around when they get the call to go back in time and change Earth’s past so that President Handley is never made president, so that the Krichardians can have a peaceful relationship with Earth. Conservatives have coopted Christianity into a hate mongering, gun promising religion, and the first thing they need to do, is go back and find Jesus. When Chrissy & Tina get kidnapped by the Colorless Ones cult against time traveling, Marty and Nellie have to figure out how to save the world by themselves before nuclear annihilation. But first, they need to learn how to fly the ship, and for that, they’re going to need some hind brains.

You should know that Jesus cusses a lot in this book. As an atheist, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest and I don’t think it will bother most liberally minded Christians with a sense of humor. But I thought I should put it in there. There are no gratuitous sex scenes or anything like that in this book. Just really funny, liberal humor. I recommend it to all liberals who are sick of Trump, who have a sense of humor, love funny digs on conservatism, and like goofy time travel type reads.

The narrator does a pretty good job too.

Great second book, now onto the third!

This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author and I already have book three waiting.
I would not say his story itself is irreverent, instead I’d say insightful.
He very poignantly and at the same time with humor, brings up many social inequalities and events as well as points out inconsistencies and overblown stories of the Bible. He creatively outlines the travels of Marty and Nellie in their attempt to correct humanities downward spiral. I love the integration of Jesus into the plot.

This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Nate C Maugham ). He does quite well giving each character a recognizable voice. His style leans more toward performing than reading however i never quite forgot I was being read to. Possibly because the narrative dialogue is that of Marty recounting events Regardless, it is a very pleasant listen. His pacing is good and diction clear.

There are no explicit sex scenes or violence. There is swearing- some by Jesus. All is appropriate and the swearing is not just for the sake of doing it.

If you loved the 1st you will love the 2nd.

What could be better about the adventures of Marty Mann, Nellie Dixon, Tina and Chrissie you ask? Bring in Jesus, If you loved the first book in this series you will love the second one hands down. Much like the first book they get the notion of time travel done right. There are way too many other books where its all over the place or the continuity gets screwed or its impossible to follow. This series nails it with good follow through so you are never lost as to when and where you are while also explaining the jump and timeline differences. There is a lot of that here specially once Jesus gets in the picture. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you Marty Essen for another great book.

Buckle up! Another hilarious adventure!!

Another masterpiece from Marty Essen with great narration by Nate C. Maughan!! Although this book stands on its own, it is a wonderful continuation of the first book. Irreverent and filled with political and religious overtones, I truly believe it hits the mark on so many levels. A few reviewers will say it is a bit “preachy” in spots but I disagree. Marty pulls no punches but merely says, and explains, very well what we are all thinking! The interactions with the Colorless ones cult was really a stroke of genius. Who would have thought an alien civilization would have religious extremists unable to tolerate another point view just like we do here. HMMMM… Although I really like Chrissy and Tina, I enjoyed the fact they were less conspicuous and let Marty and Nellie drive the story. A wonderful case of less is more. And then there is Jesus. If he were here today, I am sure his attitude would mirror the one in this book! Buckle up for another thrilling ride and be prepared to laugh your butt off!

Another Trip With Jesus!

This sequel to "Time Is Irreverent" was hilarious, but not quite as good as the first book. I think it lost it's originality by having a sequel, but it's still a funny story, full of the same rye humor from the first book.
Once again, Marty Essen spoofs what is happening in our society, showing how today's evangelical Christians have lost what it really means to be Christian.
After the first book, the timeline has changed and 2020 is a peaceful time for the world. Then a group of religious extremists from Krichardia reverses the changes Marty and his pals made in the first book. Marty and pals are sent back to the past to re-fix things. When they return to 2020, they find they have a stowaway aboard their craft - Jesus Christ himself!
Worth a listen, especially if you enjoyed the first novel.

Its a wacky Sci-fi World.

This is a creative kooky version of Sci-fi mixed with a fun story with sprinkles of satire further sliced and diced and cooked with a strange set of characters.

The Narrator serves this dish with a great performance and gives you guys a reason to download this book.

A Review Written by a Libtard

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Second Note: I'm an atheist, gun taking, gay-loving, Kapernick Jersey Wearing, Sanders Supporting, Science Believing Libtard. If any of those bother you, maybe ignore this review (and also this book will probably get the pink panties you're wearing under your camo pants in a bunch)

I really liked this book. It was funny, it was irreverent, and yet it touched on some fairly important social issues. It did feel 'preachy' in a few spots, and the recap at the beginning was more confusing than helpful to someone who didn't read/listen to the first book, however over-all it's a win.

I try as hard as I can to not spoil the books I review, so I'm simply going to say if you're willing to laugh about parts of society that others don't think are able to be laughed at, listen to this book. I'm sure you'll like it. I'm going back now to get the first book.

One note to the author. I'd love to see any other books take on additional religions. I can understand how for safety you might not want to have Mohammad show up, but Buddha meeting JC and the funky bunch, or maybe Thor hangin' out would be fun.

Almost as good as the first one

"Almost as good as the first one" - may sound like damning with faint praise but it's not. 2nd books often don't compare well but this one does. It has the same good/interesting characters, a narrator who is easy to listen to and captures the snark very well, and has a fun and imaginative plot. Quite timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly at parts but that added to the amusement. I smiled a lot listening to this book and looked forward to getting into my car to hear more.

The downside, IMHO, is that book 1 was more subtle. In book 2, characters go off on little lectures (which seem forced) to convey the moral lessons.

The narrator is different but so similar to the first that the switch was not jarring at all. Nice choice.

I received a promotional code to purchase this book.
