Resumen del Editor

WHEN HER HOPES ARE SHATTERED BY WAR, ONE WOMAN WILL RISK EVERYTHING TO SAVE THOSE SHE LOVES

American horse trainer Adia Kensington is living her dream of working at the famous Janów Podlaski stables in Poland, where the best Arabian horses in the world are bred. But her plans to bring a priceless stallion to the US are derailed when the German army storms into her adopted country in 1939. Little does she know this is just the beginning of six long years of occupation that will threaten her beloved horses at every turn.

Bret Conway is at Janów Podlaski under the guise of a news reporter, but his true mission is intelligence gathering for the British. That and keeping Adia safe, which is harder and harder to do as she insists they must evacuate two hundred and fifty horses to save them from being stolen, sold, or eaten by the invading forces. What follows will test Bret’s and Adia’s physical, mental, and emotional strength, as well as their faith in God, humankind, and each other.

This epic story of escape, capture, resistance, and love is based on true events of the uncommon heroes in World War II Poland.

“Sweeping and deeply inspiring.”—Amanda Barratt, Christy Award-winning author of The Warsaw Sisters and Within These Walls of Sorrow

Well thought out and executed

A young woman learns to love more than horses as she navigates the hell of war. Adia is on a quest to save the horses at Janow Podlaski in the chaos of Poland in the Second World War. It starts out as a love story about horses and blossoms into more.

I really enjoy characters and motivations in stories and this book doesn’t disappoint. The main characters Adia, Brett and Ewan are well developed and interesting. You find yourself really caring what happens to them. What’s more is that as you navigate the story you find yourself examining the supporting characters and even villains. A lot of stories skimp on this, but this isn’t one of them.

I grew up on the history channel and WW2 is one of my favorite time periods to study. It was interesting to watch the progression of the war from these characters perspective and learn new facts along the way. Nicole does a wonderful job showing the history through the lense of a specific barn and Arabian horses. When most of the world is starving prized bloodlines become important to fewer people and kindness can be in short supply. She doesn’t pull any punches about the brutality that Adia faces during her journey, but she doesn’t beat you over the head with it. There is even more detail after the book explaining the inspiration for specific horses etc. You can really tell how much work went into making this book a reality.

There is something here for everyone. Do you like historical fiction, war stories, espionage, horses, great characters or a love story? There’s something here for you. Pilar Witherspoon does a fantastic job with the narration and pronunciation of some difficult names. Her reading really helps keep you planted in the story.

I’ve been waiting years to hear this story and I’m glad my time has come.
