Acerca de esta escucha

Lauded by Pat Conroy, author of The Lords of Discipline and many other best sellers, Virginia's Ring is a love letter to the Virginia Military Institute. Set in the pretty Shenandoah Valley town of Lexington and Virginia's capital city of Richmond, the two main characters of Virginia's Ring share their experiences at the Virginia Military Institute and beyond with poignancy and grace. These experiences serve as a reminder of how precious people, places, and life can be.

Creatively narrated by both a male and female VMI graduate, Virginia's Ring leaves listeners with new or renewed respect for VMI. Founded in 1839, the Virginia Military Institute is a unique military college educating young men and women to become leaders in the military and civilian worlds. VMI has a long legacy of successful graduates who have proudly served the United States in war and in peace. Men and women who wear the VMI ring share a special bond anywhere they meet in the world.

A truly pleasurable experience

What made the experience of listening to Virginia's Ring the most enjoyable?

I have read and very much enjoyed Virginia's Ring, a deeply moving story of challenges, bonding, love and loss. By listening, the events were even more clearly visualized. I certainly had vivid memories of Richmond and visits to VMI. The audible version gives an even deeper dimension to this tale. In my review of the printed version I made the comparison to Pat Conroy: I certainly had two "Conroy" moments when Nick found his father's letter and the 21 ring salute. Where Conroy's Santini was untouchable, Win brought out the best in everyone.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a tale of overcoming obstacles, forming friendships and the enduring ties that bind from the VMI experience

Have you listened to any of C. James Moore and Andi Arndt ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to them before

Love Story to VMI

What other book might you compare Virginia's Ring to and why?

Probably Pat Conroy's "Lords od Discpline" - however less dark and more "realistic" - however still a very entertaining book - especially for anyone part of the VMI family.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A number of moments brought me right back to my time as a cadet at VMI, any VMI alum will probably enjoy this book - while non-military school folks might enjoy getting a more intimate portrayal of life at the "Mother I" and other military colleges.

Any additional comments?

Mr. Seldon has finally produced a VMI version of Pat Conroy's "Lords of Discipline" and it is one that this VMI alum thoroughly enjoyed. The story takes place through two characters that attend VMI about 20 years apart - one male and one female - and through their stories he will cause most alum to relive the best parts of their cadetship while giving those that have not attended a better idea of the daily rigors of life as a cadet at VMI.

Good story

Well written story about 2 lives at VMI. As a parent of a prospective cadet, it was interesting to learn some of the history and traditions intertwined with a well written story. Many parallels to Pat Conroy's writing.
