Resumen del Editor

Mourning the death of his father and gravely injured at the hands of the English, Jamie Fraser finds himself running with a band of mercenaries in the French countryside, where he reconnects with his old friend, Ian Murray. Both are nursing wounds, both have good reason to stay out of Scotland, and both are still virgins despite several opportunities to remedy that deplorable situation with ladies of easy virtue.

But Jamie's love life becomes infinitely more complicated - and dangerous - when fate brings the young men into the service of Dr. Hasdi, a Jewish gentleman who hires them to escort two priceless treasures to Paris. One is an old Torah; the other is the doctor's beautiful daughter, Rebekah, destined for an arranged marriage. Both Jamie and Ian are instantly drawn to the bride-to-be - but they might be more cautious if they had any idea who they're truly dealing with.

Wonderful Early Jamie & Ian In France

Allan Scott-Douglas did a very nice narration of this novel about Ian and Jamie in the days after Jamie's first lashing in Wentworth.

Jamie has arrived in France, poor and with a bleeding back to earn money as a merc.

The story arc is one we've heard hinted at but never before gotten the details of.

Since it's called " Virgins" it's pretty obvious what much if the focus is about.

Short and sweet, yet with a surprising twist at the end, I really enjoyed the book.

Any "Outlander" series reader will want to hear this. Not a particularly good book to begin the series, it really needs to be read/heard within the context of the entire series.

If you haven't read this series,I highly recommend it for excitement, suspense, and romance.

I enjoy the TV version if the novels but the books are so much more fun.

I'll read this/ listen to this book again, I believe I've read or listened to every book in this series at least 6 times as I reread them all before I pick up the newest addition.

Each book is so detailed with people and places that I read/listen with a map and the Outlander companion books beside me.

So live thus series and the people in it-its like they became friends 25+ years ago.

Enjoy!!

Things I didn't need to know about Jamie and Ian.

I truly love the Outlander series. I have read it several times have Autographed copies of several of the hardback additions and also liked listening to it on Audio.
Diana G is an amazing writer/storyteller. So I was expecting something like that when I purchased it. I was a little disappointed though. Maybe it was the narrator but I think it was a combination of a story that didn't grab me like I was expecting and the narrative that didn't sound quite right.
I think I could have passed on this book because all and all theses were things I didn't need to know about Jamie and Ian.

A good book but not as good as the series.

the book is worth reading but certainly not as good as Outlander. I'm anxious to start the next book in the series.

waiting for more

The narrator was fabulous and appropriately male. I love Davina Porter but this was Jamie's and Ian's story. This was rather short even for a novella from Diana Gabaldon. Jamie, as usual is hurt and gets more beat up throughout the story. A little more fleshing out of the characters would have been nice. even Jamie and Ian are not well described. The basic plot and progression are there, but no real meat in the story. This seemed more about society's prejudice against Jews than two young Highlanders desperate to survive and navigate their world.

A Short Story with Drama

in her own special style the author manages to convey the feelings and emotions of the characters in a way that brings them to life. this is actually my 2nd time listening, as I am again starting to go through the series, since it has been awhile. My first trip through the world created by Diana Gabaldon was in print, and only included the primary Big Enormous Books. My second, in audio form, included everything from the BEBs to The Shorter, Less Indescribable Novels and The Bulges (her terms), but in a haphazard order. For this third trip through time I am following the author's suggested order that includes all writings in an order that begins with this story. Knowing the characters already, I can still say that this short story is a great introduction to Jamie and Ian.
Additionally, the narrator was pleasant to listen to, even if he did not provide various vocal characterizations while reading. he had a smooth voice that fell into the background as the story itself came to the forefront in my mind.
