Excellent and readable

Lois Tverberg's excellent scholarship gives great insight into the scriptures. The reader for this book would have done better if she was familiar with Hebrew pronunciation. Some other words and place names were mispronounced also.

Must Read

The contextual information of how Jesus’ words and teaching would have sounded to his contemporary listeners is so helpful to understanding the text. And the wisdom of rabbinical interpretation of the Old Testament is also very helpful. Reading with Jewish perspective is illuminating!

Thought-provoking. Great background to understand the cultural context of the Gospels better. It was easy to follow. About half of the material was truly new to me, but every nugget that was new was priceless!

if anyone struggles with approaching scripture from the Western perspective, this masterpiece fibres deep into the Jewish context of Jesus' ministry and sheds light on many of his mysterious sayings. such a blessing and a call to action!!

So much insight!

I loved learning about the figures of speech in Jesus’ day that were used in the Bible. Many of those figures of speech have been translated literally and the intent has been lost in translation.

Obsessed

Listening to this book was a true joy. Lois Tverberg's writing draws you in and educates without boring you. I've long since been a fan of Pam Ward's narration style and wasn't disappointed this time either. Pam puts just enough emotion into her reading that it feels human, but not so much that it feels like a dramatization. This was a VERY dynamic combination!
