The US Navy's On-the-Roof Gang, Volume 2: War in the Pacific is an historical novel based on the unknown true-life story of the "On-the-Roof Gang". It is a sequel to The US Navy's on-the-Roof Gang, Volume 1: Prelude to War.
This second volume begins with the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and documents the contributions of the On-the-Roof Gang during World War II. It focuses on the wartime stories of the On-the-Roof Gang intercept operators, some who were stationed in Hawaii, some who survived a tortuous existence in a POW camp, others who had to evacuate their intercept sites, and still others who performed intercept operations while at sea during some of the most famous naval battles of World War II.

What a wonderful homage!
What a wonderful homage to this group of men who annonymously protected and defended our country! Really, nobody was allowed to know this was going on! These books provide a lot of behind-the-scenes, real-life accounts of real troops and what they had to deal with...although, I'm sure there are still many factoids one would not want to recall. I've always had a tough time with my history lessons in general, so I did need to concentrate pretty hard to follow along. To remedy that, I focused on the men's individual accounts, making it become more of a novel. Because of this, I was either glad or sad for each fellow, depending on the outcome of their own experience. I continually tried to keep in mind that they were not fictional, but real people, living real lives. However, there were definitely a couple of moments when I'd shout out "Dude, don't do that!" These books also bring to light a better understanding of why people feel the way they do about other people, while trying to overcome those thoughts. I can understand the fear Americans must have been experiencing at the time.

A must read!
This book was my favorite of the series when I read it the first time. I was so eager for the audiobook to arrive, and it does not disappoint! Definitely worth a listen!

Fantastic!!
As good as Volume 1 is, Volume 2 of this series is even better! The story moves from being a planning effort into a real wartime epic, with On-the-Roof Gang operators in a myriad of compelling assignments all over the Pacific. After these two books, it’s hard to imagine how the war would have turned out without them! And this audiobook version really makes the stories come alive. I can honestly say that even if you read the books, the audiobooks will surprise and amaze you. Thanks to Matt Zullo for doing all the research needed to create these books - they will live in military and cryptologic history forever!!

Loved this
Matt and the narrator do a wonderful job with the detail of the material and the presentation. Enjoyed the book, but the ability to go about your day and listen to the individual stories only make it better.
