Acerca de esta escucha
Recipient of Sports Illustrated's Inspiration of the Year Award and one of Time's 100 Most Influential People (2018)
"Who is going to tell these little girls that what was done to them matters? That they are seen and valued, that they are not alone and they are not unprotected?"
Rachael Denhollander's voice was heard around the world when she spoke out to end the most shocking scandal in US gymnastics history. The first victim to publicly accuse Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor who abused hundreds of young athletes, Rachael now reveals her full story for the first time. How did Nassar get away with it for so long? How did Rachael and the other survivors finally stop him and bring him to justice? And how can we protect the vulnerable in our own families, churches, and communities?
What Is a Girl Worth? is the inspiring true story of Rachael's journey from an idealistic young gymnast to a strong and determined woman who found the courage to raise her voice against evil, even when she thought the world might not listen. This deeply personal and compelling narrative shines a spotlight on the physical and emotional impact of abuse, why so many survivors are reluctant to speak out, what it means to be believed, the extraordinary power of faith and forgiveness, and how we can learn to do what's right in the moments that matter most.

Historia
Based on a groundbreaking in-depth survey of 22,000 Christian women, The Great Sex Rescue unlocks the secrets to what makes some marriages red hot while others fizzle out. Generations of women have grown up with messages about sex that make them feel dirty, used, or invisible, while men have been sold such a cheapened version of sex, they don't know what they're missing. The Great Sex Rescue hopes to turn all of that around, developing a truly biblical view of sex where mutuality, intimacy, and passion reign.

What if the goal of raising a Christian girl was about more than keeping her virginity intact? What if it was about raising a strong, independent young woman who knows who she is, uses her voice, and confidently steps into the life God has for her? From the authors of The Great Sex Rescue comes this evidence-based book grounded on surveys of over 28,000 women to offer moms a fresh, freeing, and biblically grounded message of sexuality and self-worth for their daughters that is less about the don'ts and more about the dos.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

In the 1990s, a “purity industry” emerged out of the white evangelical Christian culture. Purity rings, purity pledges, and purity balls came with a dangerous message: girls are potential sexual “stumbling blocks” for boys and men, and any expression of a girl’s sexuality could reflect the corruption of her character. This message traumatized many girls - resulting in anxiety, fear, and experiences that mimicked the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder - and trapped them in a cycle of shame.

It was at his lowest moment that Kevin called out to a power beyond himself for help, and God answered his prayer in the form of an elderly vagrant named Don.

This harrowing account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of this closed community and the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect's women. Now, in this courageous memoir, Wall tells the incredible story of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints and helped bring one of America's most notorious criminals to justice.

Incredibly timely and important. This is a must read/listen.
This had to be a hard book to write. For all her struggles of bringing darkness to light, I’m grateful she could get this message out. This should change your perspective towards abuse, how to help survivors, and also what traps to look for in cases where the truth is trying to be suppressed. This is a story you wish didn’t have to be told and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was abused. Their pain and struggles are something we can easily ignore, and even worse, dismiss. However, their true strength shined and we thank them for that. May justice flow like a river.

EVERYONE! READ THIS!!!
I am so glad I listened to this book in Rachael's voice! I love everything about her!
This courageous woman is my hero!
Her story is both heart wrenching and exhilarating. I couldn't stop listening it until I had to. I finished it in 2 days only because I started it in the late afternoon.
This book is a must-read for just about everyone.
Little girls, a long with all human beings are created in God's image and likeness and their worth is immeasurable- the sacrifice of God's own Son.
Justice is for everyone.
Let it flow.
Mercy is needed by everyone.
All who will repent and put their faith and trust in the One in Whom justice and mercy meet and kiss - Jesus- may have it.

POWERFUL story POWERFULLY told!!!
This is such a moving testimony set within a grander story of the necessity of bringing justice and reform to the world of sexual abuse. Rachael’s command of language and storytelling brings a beautiful personal touch. What an amazingly strong woman of God! We need more women and men standing for truth and justice as she and her sister survivors did in taking down their abuser!!!

Thank you
Thank you for your strength and for giving voice to the experiences of yourself and so many others. Your courage to expose the truth is an inspiration, and your selfless struggle against the culture of cover-up and willful ignorance is a motivation to do better, to be better, for the whole community. Your words have been a blessing to listen to this week and I pray they will stay with me throughout life to remind me to never forget the importance of truth, advocacy, and justice. Thank you again, so very much!

Heartbreaking and beautiful
I teared up so many times listening through this story. I pray my unborn daughter never has to go through this, and knows how much she is worth. I pray she fights and advocates for others like the author does.
