About the story:
The coronavirus pandemic unfolds through a child's eyes, emphasizing confusion about the arrival of the vaccine. Don’t shots hurt? Despite the parents’ best efforts, the child doesn’t understand why the shot is good news:
The newscaster says, “The shot’s on its way!” Her tone seems so joyful, but I feel afraid.
I don't like shots. They feel scary to me. Why in the world would I cheer a vaccine?
It’s not until the impact of the vaccine is personal that it finally makes sense!
When a Shot Meant a Lot is for parents who support vaccinations and are looking for tools to discuss the experience with their young children. This book is not a science lesson about germs and protection. It’s a tender story for parents to start a conversation about what the vaccine has to offer: a return to normal.
