Resumen del Editor

Face-to-face with some of America's most terrifying killers, FBI veteran and ex-Army CID colonel Robert Ressler learned from them how to identify the unknown monsters who walk among us - and put them behind bars. Now the man who coined the phrase "serial killer" and advised Thomas Harris on The Silence of the Lambs shows how he has tracked down some of the nation's most brutal murderers.

Just as it happened in The Silence of the Lambs, Ressler uses the evidence at a crime scene to put together a psychological profile of the killers. From the victims they choose, to the way they kill, to the often grotesque souvenirs they take with them, Ressler unlocks the identities of these vicious killers for the police to capture.

Join Ressler as he takes you on the hunt for America's most dangerous psychopaths. It is a terrifying journey you will not forget.

A lot of back patting

This guys really likes to talk about his accomplishments. I know the book is about his journey through the FBI, but it’s a bit self serving. I wish he discussed his process more and told less stories about himself.

Great Book, Along the lines of Mindhunter

Book was a great listen. I did not find him self absorbed or grandiose. Excellent

Interesting history for crime buffs

This book not only looks at the history of the FBI but infamous crime stories that changed the way criminals were caught. Robert Ressler is the true father of criminal profiling. I found his history to be forthright, detailed and without the narcissism of John Douglas's novels. It was well narrated and explained the psychology behind profiling. Highly recommend for crime buffs.

Straight From the Horse's Mouth

Any additional comments?

I've heard a lot of Ressler's stories as told by others over the course of listening to true-crime books or podcasts, and it was both fascinating and a pleasure to hear them in his own words. The book left me a lot of food for thought both about serial killers and society at large.

Very interesting, but disjointed

Overall the book is well written and very informative and interesting. The book jumped around a lot, he'd talk about a case and then go off on a tangent for a while, then all of a sudden he starts talking about another case. Aside from that, which I guess was minor overall, it was well worth a read.

It's a great book if you're interested in profiling, but...

I don't think this was as good as the books I have listened to from John Douglas. I was annoyed by the slow speed of the reader. I don't think the book is organized in a reader friendly way. It was almost an overload of information without that information divided into understandable categories to help the reader process the information. Most of the stories were very short and some were very long and detailed.
