Need to fix audio

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. It was very interesting and nice to get some perspective on women’s involvement throughout many parts of history. Especially areas like where history likes to portray no women on ships when there was. Aside from transport ships-crew wives were sometimes there.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Querida Lu Ahn Funck ) and I would listen to another. Her voice is pleasant and I think she read this content well. However, I do not know if she is of Scottish heritage, but I believe the Scottish accent is not natural for her. Out of curiosity, I previewed a few other books and seems hers is a typical American accent. She did quite well in most areas, but in others, it would seem she would lose the lilting sound and Scottish ‘r’ (which made me question her natural accent). I am a bit confused and disappointed that they did not find someone with a native Scottish accent. Not that I feel this book needs to be done in such a manner, but it appears that is their choice, and therefore, in a book extolling Scottish women, why not have a Scottish narrator?
Quality of audio was bad. Sometimes every other sentence had a different volume. Sometimes part of a sentence. There was some running together of sentences and repeated segments that should have been edited out.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Lots of Great Information

I really enjoyed learning about the unsung women of Scotland that are often lost to history. The author did a great job of mixing humor with the realities of life in the past. The narrator on the audiobook was great and brought a lot of depth to the stories she was telling.

A lot of information but a good book.

I really enjoyed everything about this book. It's just very information heavy which makes it less story and more fact dictation in some areas. The story's that were told were absolutely wonderful.

A Good Book Ruined

It has long been my contention that a poor book can be made greater by a talented narrator and at the same time a great book can be ruined by poor narration. When it comes to "Women of Scotland" the latter is true. This is the great story of the mostly unknown or lesser known women in Scottish history. Great tales abound yet they get lost in a amateurish narration.

I'm not sure what accent this narrator thought they were doing but I do know two things for certain: 1) It's fake; and 2) It sure isn't Scottish. Why the narrator chose not to use their own voice/accent (assuming American) is beyond me but that choice made this audiobook a total disaster.

In addition to the bad narration, the audio quality was bad and the entire production was pock-marked by poor and obvious edits. A wonderful tale ruined by an amateur narration and production. I think I'll try to find this book in print and imagine my Scottish grandmother is reading it to me.

Very Interesting

I learned a lot listening to this book. It did confirm the tenacity and strength of the Scottish people, especially their women! I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review.
