King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

It's every novelist's greatest fear: pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into writing hundreds of pages only to realize that their story has no sense of urgency, no internal logic, and so is a page-one rewrite. The prevailing wisdom in the writing community is that there are just two ways around this problem: pantsing (winging it) and plotting (focusing on the external plot).

What makes a romance novel a romance? Writing a well-structured romance isn't the same as writing any other genre - something the popular novel and screenwriting guides don't address. The romance arc is made up of its own story beats. Told in conversational (and often irreverent) prose, Romancing the Beat is like sitting down to coffee with romance editor and author Gwen Hayes while she explains story structure - the way she does with her clients, some of whom are regular inhabitants of the best-seller lists.

When it comes to creating ideas, we hold ourselves back. Thats because inside each of us is an internal editor whose job is to forever polish our thoughts, so we sound smart and in control, and so that we fit into society. But what happens when we encounter problems for which such conventional thinking fails us? How do we get unstuck? For Mark Levy, the answer is freewriting....

Historia
There are four characters in every story: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characters live inside us. If we play the victim, we’re doomed to fail. If we play the villain, we will not create genuine bonds. But if we play the hero or guide, our lives will flourish. The hard part is being self-aware enough to know which character we are playing. In this book, Donald will use his own experiences to help you recognize if the character you are currently surfacing is helping you experience a life of meaning.

Excellent information
I’ve read several books on writing and this is one of the best. The chapter on Voice was very enlightening as most books are not as clear on this aspect of writing. Well narrated by two alternating narrators who keep the subject alive. Well done.

Comprehensive How-To
Audible hopes I enjoyed this program and indeed I did! I listened to this over many morning drives to work and took voice notes along the way (related to my own potential novel).
Steve and Dani offer a comprehensive “how to write young adult fiction” overview that is engaging, detailed, and inspiring.
I’m also pleased to learn they have an online writing school to assist aspiring writers after finishing the book.

Very Informative
I learned a lot about writing YA books from Steve and Dani Acorn. They offered good strategies for outlining using specific checkpoints. Their chapter on scene and sequel was especially helpful to me and my current project. They also provided specific examples from YA novels. I’m very glad I purchased this on Audible.
