About the Creator

Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1992, currently consisting of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals). Weezer has sold 10 million albums in the U.S., and over 35 million records worldwide. Their catalogue has included such megahits as "Buddy Holly," "Undone (The Sweater Song)," "Say It Ain’t So," "El Scorcho," "Hash Pipe," "Island In The Sun," "Beverly Hills," "Pork and Beans," and more. Weezer has won Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, and more throughout their career. Following massively acclaimed album releases in 2016 and 2017 ( Weezer [The White Album] and Pacific Daydream, respectively), and two sold out amphitheatre tours with Panic! At the Disco (in 2016) and Pixies (in 2018), Weezer released a fan-inspired cover of Toto’s "Africa." The cover propelled the band back into the charts across the board, giving Weezer their FIFTH #1, TENTH Top 5, and SIXTEENTH Top 10 at Alternative Radio, in addition to landing Top 5 on the Hot AC chart. It has since gone Platinum. They then surprise dropped a covers album at the start of 2019 -- Weezer (The Teal Album)—which has been streamed over a hundred million times since its release. In 2021, Weezer will release two very different but equally Weezer albums— OK Human, an orchestral pop album meditating on technology and disconnectedness, and Van Weezer, an homage to the band’s shared metal roots growing up. They will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of Weezer (The Green Album) and the 25th anniversary of Pinkerton.

About the Creator and Performer

Jaron Lanier coined the terms Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality—and had the first VR startup, manufacturing VR headsets and gloves for the first time, and creating the first surgicals simulators, vehicle prototyping, and other apps—all in his youth back in the 1980s. In the 1990s he was chief scientist for Internet2 (the academic consortium charged with making sure the internet would scale) and then of the first company to do AI processing of faces, such as changing identities or adding ornaments; that company went to Google, alas. He’s also known as a constructive critic of technology. He was concerned about how the internet was turning out from way back before it was popular to do that; has written a number of best-selling books on the topic. Plenty of awards and accolades, including an IEEE Lifetime Achievement Award, the German Peace Prize for Books, one of the highest literary honors, and multiple honorary PhDs. In 2018, Wired named Jaron one of the 25 most influential figures in tech from the previous 25 years. Jaron’s also a musician specializing in unusual and obscure instruments; in the last year, he played with Sara Bareilles and T Bone Burnett on a #1 single, appeared on Colbert playing with Jon Batiste, and collaborated with Philip Glass. Officially, Jaron is Microsoft’s "Octopus", which stands for Office of the Chief Technology Officer Prime Unifying Scientist.

Not gonna complain? BS! Not interested.

So they say this album isn’t about complaining... but then proceed to fill their discussion around it with complaint as if the current issues involving technology are specifically the fault of: the past five years of human history, “Trumpism”, “Insurgency”, and “White supremacy” 🤦🏻‍♂️. Unlike Al Gore 🥴, Trump didn’t invent the internet, let alone the screens that have invaded human society since Philo T. Farnsworth in 1927.

Was originally intrigued about this album but after the left-wing conspiracy-nut opened his mouth I’ve got zero interest.

Love how y’all can talk about media fear-mongering and being biased but not even begin to acknowledge that it happens on all sides of any social or political spectrum.
