  • As a child, Abby lived on the idyllic shores of a lake in upper Michigan and made a “summer sister” friend in Kathleen, whose family spent the season there. Their beachside girlhood shenanigans laid the foundation for a deep and lifelong friendship.

    Throughout their ups and downs, Abby and Kathleen remained close, until the disease of addiction compounded with mental health issues led to tragedy. In this episode, Abby describes how she was always there for her friend, even during the darkest, saddest moments including helping to plan Kathleen’s funeral, who was only 32 when she died.

    She tells us how she maintained her boundaries of emotional and mental wellbeing during Kathleen’s downward spiral… and reconciling that she couldn’t rescue Kathleen from the deadly grasp of alcoholism. Ultimately, Abby’s story is one of heartbreak and hope, and honoring the friend she will always miss.
