    This podcast is the audio from a video that was recorded in April 2021, which is an initiative that the Grannies has strongly supported. You will hear from two Grannies, Linda Quinn and Mary Dicks, along with Emily Dvorak and Leah Doyle from Good Neighbor Iowa.

    Good Neighbor Iowa is a state-wide public health initiative that aims to reduce unnecessary urban pesticide use and to transform lawn culture to encourage an appreciation of diverse lawns as a way to protect child health, water quality, pets, pollinators, and biodiversity.

  • E5: "Climate Change and Policy" with Jerry Schnoor - Barbara Schlachter Memorial Lecture Series

    The following talk titled "Climate Change and Policy" was presented at The Center in Iowa City Iowa by Jerry Schnoor on March 5th, 2018. He is a professor in civil and environmental engineering, and co-director of the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research at the University of Iowa. This presentation was part of our "Barbara Schlachter Memorial Lecture Series". The first speaker you will hear is Diane Dillon-Ridgley. In his talk, he discusses global greenhouse gas emissions, ocean temperature and acidity, arctic ice loss, sea level rise and flooding, hurricane intensity, the Paris Agreement, and what we need to do to reduce our emissions.

  • E3: Climate Activist Panel Discussion After "The Race to Save the World" Movie Premiere 4/26/21

    The following is a recording of the live panel event that immediately followed a US screening of "THE RACE TO SAVE THE WORLD" in April 2021.

    The movie is about people, ages 15 to 72, who see the danger coming and are putting their lives on the line to try to turn this around.   This is an uplifting film that will inspire viewers to stop waiting on the sidelines and make their voices heard for a livable future.

    The panel included our own Miriam Kashia (who is the host and moderator), along with Abby Brockway, Michael Foster, and Sue Lenander.

    Abby is a mother that joined with others to block a mile-long oil train from travelling through Washington’s cities and towns.

    Michael co-founded 350 Seattle, shared Al Gore-style climate talks for thousands, and paddled with hundreds of kayaktivists against an oil rig illegally docked in Seattle before it headed north to drill the Arctic. 

    Sue is also a kayaktivist with Backbone Campaign and a co-founder of a nonprofit called Climate Action Families.
