  • #189: Season preview
    Aug 3 2024

We managed to wrangle all five podders for our big season preview episode. Jack was obviously late, and Jamie sent in pre-recorded bits from his Finnish sauna holiday - but their additions burnished contributions from Ian, Rhys and Ed. Together, the panel pulled together a comprehensive guide, even for those who might have zoned out a bit over the summer. The episode covers (timings approximate):

    • 1 min: Panel intro and Jamie's simple guide to the summer coaching changes and new signings.
    • 7 mins: Our 'players to watch' from the new intake.
    • 13 mins: What have we learned from the pre-season games? And what do we make of Nelson Jardim so far?
    • 21 mins: This season's new kits!
    • 23 mins: Improved communications from the new NCAFC Supporters' Trust.
    • 25 mins: Local 'club in focus' discussion - if you're involved with a women's team in Gwent and want to feature, drop us a line!
    • 28 mins: Your questions answered, including "Which cheese best describes our pre-season performances?", and "What is Plan B?"
    • 45 mins: Predictions - our panel put their reputations on the line to guess where County will finish the season.
    • 53 mins: Shoutouts and beefs from our panel, and outro.

As always, you can contact the pod via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. If you like what we do and want to help us make more of it, you can buy a sticker pack. And you should also check out what Tinty & The Bucket Hats are up to; we thank them for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme.

We'll hopefully be back with an Ian Street match diary from Cheltenham on the opening day of the season. Until then, be good to each other and Keep It County.

  • #188: Barry, Llandudno and... Chepstow
    Jul 23 2024

It's Jack on hosting duties this week. In a record for the 1912 Exiles, we bring you reports from two County matches on the same day! Ed reports on a rainy afternoon for County at Barry Town, whilst our North Wales correspondent Paul tells you what you need to know of the standout players from the U18s defeat at Llandudno in the MG Cup.

Then, in Part 2, we hear from Marc Ingles, manager of our 'club in focus' for this season, Chepstow Town. Do get down to their first home game of the season vs Caldicot on Tuesday 30 July if you can.

Our big pre-season preview episode should be with you in about ten days' time. Until then, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn if you have anything to share. You can also buy our sticker packs to support the pod. As always, we thank Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme tune, and we thank you for listening.

  • #187: From Cock-Out to Jard-In!
    Jul 16 2024

A quick pod to respond to the news that Nelson Jardim has been appointed as Newport County's AFC's new Head Coach, with Ed and Jamie giving their instinctive, subjective gut reaction.

We'll be back soon with a full panel show to preview the season ahead. In the meantime, contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, and you can buy our sticker packs to support the pod. As always, a big thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme tune. And thank YOU for listening!

  • #186: Newsround / CitC walking football
    Jul 12 2024

Part One sees Jamie & Ian catch up on all the latest Newport County news. They critique the new kit, recent signings, forthcoming friendlies, the Football League TV deal and the thorny issue of ground naming rights.

The in Part Two (from about 25mins in), Ed reports on a session of walking football with the ever-brilliant County in the Community. Thanks to Reg, Joe, Tony, Howard, Deb and Norm for chatting to us. Please do support CitC and promote what they do via Twitter and Facebook if you can - they're a real asset to our club and our city.

  • #185: Los Leones
    Jun 26 2024

Whilst we await a new managerial appointment and further signings, we bring you another summer special bonus episode! In this one, Ian speaks to Christopher Evans, Newport-based author of Los Leones: the unique story of Athletic Club Bilbao. They discuss a surprising link between the Basque Country and Caerleon, the wider cultural overlap between the region and Wales, and of course the fascinating history of Athletic as a club.

Apologies for the slightly sketchy sound in parts of the episode - technical issues beyond our control etc. It's still a cracking listen!

We'll be back soon with a big news roundup about recent signings, the fixture list, and perhaps even County's new manager... In the meantime, you can get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, and you can buy our sticker packs to support the pod. As always, we thank Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme tune, and we thank you for being such wonderful and loyal listeners.

  • #184: Cock Out
    Jun 20 2024

Avengers assemble! Sort of. As news broke this morning that Graham Coughlan has left Newport County, Ed and Rhys scrambled to join Jamie in this emergency podcast record.

With little in the way of detail (as usual, say some 1912 Exiles listeners), we try to dissect the decision, the timing, the reasoning, and the who next, while also taking a moment to reflect on the efforts of the man we'll forever be grateful to for getting the club safe last year in trying circumstances.

As always, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune.

  • #183: A matter of Trust
    Jun 7 2024

In the first part of the pod, Jack brings you a newsround covering recent goings-on at 1912 Exiles Towers and at Rodney Parade. We also hear from The Other Three Amigos podcast about how they thought Nathan Wood got on during his recent loan spell at Cork City.

Ed then takes the reins for an interview with the Newport County Supporters' Trust. Nominations are currently open for election to the new Trust Board, so we hear from Colin Everett and Shaun Johnson about their experiences over the last few years with the Trust, asking what skills they think are needed from potential candidates, and what might be the biggest challenges and opportunities for the new Board. Apologies for the fact that some of Shaun's audio is a bit sketchy due to wifi issues - but we're sure you'll agree that the content itself is a good listen. Anyone interested in putting their name forward for election should e-mail elections@ncafctrust.org for further information.

As always, our sticker packs remain on sale; we also plug Rob Santwris' player fund for anyone who wants to contribute a few pennies to help Cocko get the best team possible for next season.

As always, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune.

  • #182: Newport, not County
    May 27 2024

It's Ed on duty for our first summer special, looking at local football beyond our beloved Newport County, as we try to squeeze the last few drops of football out of the season whilst there are games to watch. It's an episode in three parts, covering (approximate timings):

    • Newport City FC men's playoff match vs Cefn Cribwr (4mins)
    • Newport United futsal team (16mins)
    • Newport City FC women's cup final vs Pontarddulais (27mins)

We plan to shine a light on a different local men's team next season (and possibly a different women's team too, we'll see). Get in touch if you're involved in a club who's like to be our 'team in focus' for 2024/25 - we're open to offers! But in the meantime, you can follow Newport City men (Twitter / Facebook), Newport City women (Twitter / Facebook) and Newport United (Twitter / Facebook) to see what they get up to next.

As always, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune.
