The sexual experience within marriage is enormously fulfilling, beyond what any other extramarital sexual relations can give us. However, there is still the tendency to get caught up in an idolatry of the human body because of how powerfully intimate and gratifying sex is. Falling prey to that idolatry leads to all sorts of evil and eventually to the downfall of civilization. The ancient world was filled with sexual immorality, chiefly in relation to worshipping the ancient gods. However, some did have a sense honor, respect, and obligation, viewing the marital relationship as building block of society. Now that we have examined prayer in depth, we moved on to the discipline of fasting which is a very forgotten discipline in modern times. There is a growing fascination with fasting in secular culture that is primarily due to the beneficial physical effects that it can have since it forces the body to rely upon the fat stored up for sustenance and can induce healthy weight loss. However, there are major spiritual benefits as well that help us to connect with God on a deeper level if we are willing to use fasting as a sacrificial period in which to commune with him.
