2.5 Karen Magruder – Green Social Work, Environmental Justice, and How to Harness the Power of Eco-Anxiety

  • Resumen

  • In this episode, we’re so excited to share a conversation with Karen Magruder, a faculty member in the school of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Karen was trained in trauma informed therapy, but Hurricane Harvey in 2017 brought the “a-ha” moment to her. She witnessed how the climate crisis made vulnerable people more vulnerable, especially with the poor infrastructures in our society. We chatted about the Environmental Justice & Green Social Work course she created at UTA, what eco-anxiety is, and how to harness its power for change!

Things we mentioned in the episode:

    • Karen’s article in in Social Work Today: Exploring the Prevalence and Treatment of Eco-Anxiety
    • UN Climate Change Learning
    • UPSTREAM – Framework to Harness the Power of Our Eco-anxiety
