  • Our guest is New York Times bestselling author Ruth Wariner. In her memoir The Sound of Gravel, she writes about growing up in a polygamous Mormon colony named after her grandfather in Mexico. She shares harrowing and unbelievable details about being her father’s 39th child, living in extreme poverty after her father’s murder – and then eventually escaping the colony that was enabling her stepfather’s sexual abuses.
