  • In this episode of 'Life Moves Pretty Fast', Tarquin Gotch and Hadley Freeman study 'Sixteen Candles', John Hughes' directorial debut. Starring Molly Ringwald, who'd go on to feature in three consecutive Hughes movies - and become something of a muse to him and a celebrity in her own right - it tells the story of a teenager's worst day. And as would become the pattern for Hughes' teen movies, it does so with just the right mix of comedy, insight and empathy whilst introducing a number of budding young actors; in this case Anthony Michael Hall and John and Joan Cusack.
