    After an exciting ride with Mike Elko at the helm Duke football found themselves in need of another defensive guru to lead the team. Manny Diaz not only has the defensive chops but also the experience as a head coach in the ACC. It remains to be seen if he can take the Blue Devils to new heights but as our Special Guest on ACC Nation, Conor O'Neill points out, there's plenty of motion going in the right direction. O'Neill, the Publisher of Devils Illustrated provides a broad view of where the team stands in 2024. As one might imagine there are some shortcomings, some question marks and also plenty to be excited about. At 6'5" and 238 lbs. you might imagine Murphy (coming in from Texas) to be a running threat but his presence in the pocket adds an interesting dimension to Duke's offensive threats.     Nothing like a little flame throwing from ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips to open the football kickoff for the conference. Phillips and more than a fair share of the coaches and players were full of piss and vinegar during the event. If that attitude holds steady this season it's going to be a spectacular year of football. Will and Jim provide some hot takes on everything and everyone and nobody is safe. With both the Georgia Tech and Stanford football previews available now the guys have Conor O'Neill (Duke), Andy Bitter (Virginia Tech), Emily Leiker (Syracuse) and Manny Navarro (Miami) already lined up for more. You'll get your first look at Florida State, Georgia Tech and SMU in action on Saturday, August 24 with the Noles and Jackets on ESPN with kickoff at noon and the Mustangs on CBSSN at 8:00p ET. There are multiple takes on how ACC teams will perform this season. The ESPN FPI's top 5 are Florida State, Clemson, Louisville, Miami and SMU. The Athletic projects Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech and Louisville in their preseason Top 25. And, in perhaps one of the more intriguing rankings Phil Steele has a three-way tie for the top spot between Clemson, Florida State and Miami. It doesn't stop there. There's a four-way tie for fourth between SMU, Virginia Tech, Louisville and NC State. It's going to be a superbly entertaining football season with the kickoff rapidly approaching.

Coach Troy Taylor is in his second season and though the pantry is a bit bare a quick look at the Rivals recruiting charts from 2023 to 2025 says that won't always be the case. The first year in the ACC won't be a cakewalk for Stanford as they adjust to the new opponents, travel and somewhat nasty front half of the season's schedule.     Tobacco Road begins and ends in Raleigh as the Pack place both men's and women's teams in the top tier of the NCAA Basketball Tournaments. NC State has delivered an amazing package of hoops for fans this season. Bang for the buck? Oh, you're into whipped cream territory now and keep your fingers crossed that a cherry of two are still in the works. You can certainly talk about the ACC men superseding expectations and in many ways the women in post-season action as well. The best thing coming out of this season, other than some fantastic basketball is serious conversation regarding how teams are rated and ranked. The system is flawed and needs yet another overhaul.
