    দশম একাদশ শতাব্দী কাশ্মীরি কবি ক্ষেমেন্দ্র তাঁর "বোধিসত্ত্বাবদান কল্পলতা" বইতে তুলে ধরেছিলেন উপগুপ্ত ও বাসবদত্তার কাহিনী। পরবর্তীকালে ১৩০৬ সালে রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের 'অভিসার' কবিতার বিষয়বস্তু এই "বোধিসত্ত্বাবদান কল্পলতার" উপযুক্ত অবতারের কাহিনী থেকে নেওয়া। মথুরার সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ নগর নর্তকী বাসবদত্তা বৌদ্ধ সন্ন্যাসী উপগুপ্তের রূপে মোহিত হয়ে তাঁকে বরণ করতে চাইলে, সন্ন্যাসী তার অন্তরের প্রদীপকে প্রজ্জ্বলিত করে দিয়েছিলেন এক নতুন জীবনের অনুপ্রেরণা, করেছিলেন পরিপূর্ণতা।

    Rabindranath Tagore's last and final novel (still arguable), শেষের কবিতা (Shesher Kobita) had an uncommon and remarkable letter in the end, wrote to Amit (male protagonist) by Lavanya (female protagonist) as end note in poem formate. In Letter she describes her opinion towards his nature and behaviour the way they are two different poles in personality. Here Amit is attention seeker but Lavanya loves to stay low, flourishing her freedom of choices. She quote "Guys like you are suitable for loving but not for spending life ahead as spouse".
