Alien 3 (1992): A Misunderstood Masterpiece Or A Violently Awful Cash Grab? Definitely...

  • Resumen

  • Ben and Rob leap into the fire of controversy with ‘Alien 3’, the debut feature film of legendary director David Fincher and widely considered a staggeringly disappointing film both critically and commercially. Starring Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance and Lance Henriksen, ‘Alien 3’ follows Ellen Ripley after her Sulaco escape pod crashes on a planet populated by violent male inmates; and violently undoes huge amounts of story work established by James Cameron in his eighties megahit ‘Aliens’. Widely considered a terrible end to Ripley’s story, this film is nonetheless Rob’s absolute favourite entry in the franchise; MUCH to Ben’s utter horror and disgust.

So what exactly does this botched sequel offer that can’t be found in its superior prequels? How did the most astounding of sci-fi franchises fall so low? Has there ever been quite such an unlikely string of stupid, repeated, wilful, stupid, greedy and above all STUPID mistakes made in the production of a movie?
