Only those who risk going to far can possibly find out, just how far they can go.  -T.S. Elliot
The All American Pot Smugglers had spent years pushing the limits, the limits of what they could handle both physically and mentally. But now their stories would come to a point where they would be forced to find out just how far they could go emotionally. Both Petey and JJ at different points in their own journeys, ended up spending time out on the run away from friends and family. Sometimes with nothing but the shirts on their backs. With the law on their heels. Every turn, it was only a matter of time before the tragic events of the crash would finally catch up to them. Feeling like a wounded and cornered animal. All that could be done at this point was to keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep the spiritual energy alive inside, hoping beyond all hope that one last time the grace and magic of that spirit that kept them alive all those years would come through for them one last time.

    • Out of the frying pan and into the fryer. The crew had cheated death and escaped the law by the skin of their teeth. But all was not smooth sailing, especially not in this waterlogged story. Their backs were to the wall. The word had gotten out that the group was hot. The lawman was on their tails. And no one in the business wanted anything to do with our Good Ol' Boys. So the usual stream of income had been abruptly cut off. And the flow of funds was beginning to dry up. It had been a very long year and a half since the infamous crash and things only got worse. When the crew found out there was a fresh warrant out for Petety's  arrest, the squeeze was on. Luckily for the crew, no one was concerned about any of them, if caught, turning on the others. The brotherhood between them assured the peace of mind nothing would break their bond.

  • The Crash
    Jan 14 2023

All good things must come to an end. A lastminute job with inadequate time to plan. A landing site that was less than stellar. Crew members who were sleep deprived though this may have been self-inflicted. Unplanned crew switch outs and last but not least a support staff that the crew barely new. That they were forced to use only to find out later that they couldn't fill the simplest jobs or instructions. With all these things and more The All-American Pot Smugglers had their hands full with this spine-chilling experience that they call The Crash. Nothing is more terrifying than the Gut Punch feeling that you may have just witnessed one of your comrades fall to the whispers of death, catastrophes abound one after another once the roller coaster left the track there's no getting it back on.

No matter the path you choose to take in life, there will be moments that truly define not only your character but who you really are as a person, as a group and as a team. The four men stood there on those porch stairs together, bound by brotherhood but frozen in fear.

A wise man, William Feather once said, success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go. While this holds true in many other facades of life, it is absolutely something to live by in the smuggling business. Far more than once the American Pot Smugglers were faced with adversity  that would've swayed most who  abandoned all hope and give up on the load. Having to complete your mission 36 hours with no sleep, with your mind playing tricks on you was no stranger to this group. The crew is here with us today to recant one of their more difficult runs, where J.J found himself on the edge falling toward the fate of calling it quits. But with his comrade in crime, Sugar Bear by his side, hope was never lost.

Whether you're playing in the Super Bowl or your band is opening up for Aerosmith or you find yourself smuggling pot, two things remain consistent, #1 You've got to be able to rely on your team and straying outside your tried and true can get you into trouble. And two, being able to think on your feet when most would give into panic is the only way to make it unscathed.

Early on in the 1980's before pot smugglers were assembled, Petey was learning the ropes with his original crew. The main product they were moving and selling at the time was Columbian Gold, which while it was better quality than the pot coming out of Mexico, it was nowhere as good as the premium herb that was being grown in Jamica. Always looking to have a leg up on the competition, Petey was trying to find an open door to this exquisite marijuana market.
