  • From Adversity to Inspiration: Ethan Poetic's Resilient Journey
    Jul 24 2024
Ethan Poetic ’20 was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and moved to Lancaster in the middle of his eighth-grade year. On March 19, 2011, he was seriously injured when a tractor-trailer collided with his vehicle on Lincoln Highway East (Route 30) in Paradise Township in Lancaster County. This moment put his life on pause and forced him to fight a ruptured aorta, internal bleeding, a concussion, a fractured collarbone and a sprained wrist. The accident would also cause a delay in Poetic’s pursuit of higher education as his health became his main priority. After a long road of recovery, Poetic was offered a job at the School District of Lancaster after-school sports program and was accepted as a student at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). He then went on to attend Millersville University because of their communications department, affordable tuition, safe campus, and for the flexibility that allowed him to work two jobs while taking classes. Poetic was welcomed with open arms at Millersville after transferring from HACC. He got along with the students, staff, professors and public safety personnel. The library became an incredibly useful resource, providing him with access to technology. Poetic’s math and writing tutors helped shape his academic career for the better. Although he longed to be more involved on campus, his financial responsibilities took precedence. Poetic graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech communications, with a minor in broadcasting and media. He also holds an associate degree from HACC. Poetic is the only member of his family to graduate twice with a post-secondary degree. He is proud to have been featured on the front page of the LNP Lancaster Newspaper in April of 2021 and on WGAL as an inspirational story in May of 2021. He states that all of his college professors made a positive impact on his life. Specifically, Dr. Theresa Russell-Loretz left an immensely positive influence on Poetic by presenting him with the Department Chair’s Special Recognition Award for overcoming adversities and challenges. Poetic says that Millersville University helped him grow as a man and as a leader. “Being around other college students and professors allowed me to see certain areas I needed help with, such as seeking help from both writing and math tutors,” he says. Resources at Millersville helped Poetic to successfully complete two television internships at Lancaster Community TV Channel 66 (LCTV 66). Currently, Poetic is a tutor for Substitute Teacher Services and is in the process of starting his own business of Ethan A. Poetic LLC, which includes keynote speaking, corporate speaking engagements, poetry workshops and serving as a mental health advocate. To connect with Poetic, he may be contacted on LinkedIn at Ethan Poetic. • Miracles, Memories, and a Supernatural Adventure: A Conversation with Author Paul Joel
    Jul 13 2024

I’m Paul Joel the author of “A Man Like You and Me A Supernatural Adventure Story.” Website is http://PaulJoelbook.com/ Please see the Amazon book review by Stacey Chillemi on that site for a summary of the novel. In never believed in God until at the age of 33 I stepped into Tears Church and received a message – “I love you; your sins are forgiven.” Chapter 1 of the novel as it happened. The next day I saw the face of Jesus. Chapter 2. I’m the physician in the novel tasked with getting the pope in unison with the bishops to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as requested by Our Lady of Fatima on 10/13/1917. That is also my task in real life. The “beautiful blond” in the novel is my wife. Basically it is a true love story. The purpose of the novel is to increase faith in God in the reader.

Not in the novel – On 3/25/2019 I was diagnosed with a rare disease, Hashimoto’s Encephalitis Suddenly that day 95% of my long term memory and 100% of my short term memory were wiped away. Also I had a severe peripheral neuropathy. Despite 2 years of chemotherapy, steroids and anti-seizure medications, nothing changed. So treatment was stopped. . A year later on 4/29/2022 miraculously my memory came back! The MRI of my brain is unchanged and continues to reveal that the parts of my brain responsible for memory were destroyed but my memory is fine. So the novel is about miracles and now I’m a living miracle of sorts. Hope to be an interesting and entertaining guest on your show.

  • From Adversity to Aspiration: An Inspiring Conversation with Charlie Thompson
    Jun 30 2024

Charlie's Bio I’m a native of Southwest Huntsville, living in the same neighborhood where I grew up. My single mother and my grandfather raised me. My life has had a lot of ups and downs. As a kid, I was in and out of trouble, but I eventually turned myself around, graduated from Madison Academy, a private Christian school, in 2000. From there, I went on to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning a B.S. in Biology in 2004, later adding coursework in Chemistry from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. When my grandfather was alive, we were an upper middle-class family, but he passed away before I graduated college, and like many families, we descended into financial ruin. During that time, I worked a variety of additional jobs that included tending bar, working security and anything to try to make ends meet while attempting to help my mother save her home from foreclosure. We never made it. Even with my help, she lost her home because we could never get ahead of the bills. Between 2011 and 2014, I lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with my childhood best friend, who was in the Navy. This point of my life gave me a window into how the United States Navy, and more broadly, the United States Armed Forces operate. I also witnessed first-hand how mental health issues can affect one’s life as my friend eventually committed suicide due to issues that remained unaddressed during his time in the service and remains one of my biggest reasons I ran for political office. I firmly believe that we need to provide greater support to our Armed Services members, both in their duties while serving our country and in mental health issues. Our current and retired military members deserve our support, going beyond lip service to ensure that they lead happy and productive lives. Unlike most people who have run for office, I am not connected, nor am I independently wealthy. I am like you, trying to make a living. My business experience consists mainly of working in the management in the rental car industry, first as a manager with a branch of Avis Rental Cars in Virginia Beach and then in parking with the Huntsville Madison County Airport Authority after I moved back to Alabama in 2014 and running my own company. These experiences have shaped me into who I am today and form the basis of who I am. My grandfather, a college professor who instilled in me a thirst for knowledge, so I began learning about many different things from when I was five years old, biology, chemistry, physics, you name it. I spend every day studying something. I am an expert on history and military tactics, having read multiple volumes of books. My only goal is to get smarter every day and learn more so I can help our country. In addition, I am an avid sports fan and enjoy watching every sport. During my time in Virginia, I also helped coach a now-defunct football team at Hampton Roads Junior College, where I also helped mentor these young players in other aspects of their lives. • Celebrating Laughter: A Conversation with Sir Frank Cooper of the AAhAs
    Jun 19 2024

Bio: Sir Frank Cooper - Founder and President of the AAhAs, the African American Humor Awards Society Sir Frank Cooper, a visionary and trailblazer in the world of entertainment, is the distinguished founder and president of the African American Humor Awards Society (AAhAs). Born with an unwavering passion for comedy and a deep sense of justice, Cooper's journey from a chance encounter to becoming the driving force behind the AAhAs is nothing short of remarkable. Cooper's journey began when he crossed paths with the formidable Beverly Muse, a meeting that would change the course of his life forever. Muse, a true force to be reckoned with, extended an invitation to Cooper. This invitation led him to the first-ever Black comedy club in Los Angeles, where he was immediately immersed in an electric atmosphere that ignited his love for comedy. During this laughter-filled event, Cooper stumbled upon the legendary Michael Williams, the mastermind behind The Comedy Act Theater. Williams saw potential in Cooper and took a chance on him, leading to Cooper's involvement in the comedy club crew. This role not only immersed him in the behind-the-scenes aspects of the comedy world but also sparked his passion for scheduling acts and nurturing comedic talent. As Cooper's journey continued, he couldn't ignore the glaring absence of recognition for the incredible talent within minority communities in prestigious award shows like the Oscars, Emmy's, and SAG Awards. This realization ignited the spark that led to the birth of his visionary idea—the African American Humor Awards Society, or AAhAs. Cooper's innovative thinking and dedication to celebrating extraordinary talent prompted him to create an award show that would truly honor and showcase the diverse comedic voices often overlooked. Cooper's impact is far-reaching and transformative. He has become a beacon of change, working diligently to reshape the entertainment industry by infusing diversity, inclusivity, and representation into its very core. His tireless efforts are evident in the annual AAhAs award show, which has become a symbol of unity, celebration, and progress in the entertainment world. Under Cooper's leadership, the AAhAs are not just about awarding exceptional talent but about creating a cultural shift. Cooper's vision encompasses the power of laughter as a universal language that transcends boundaries, fostering a community that is not divided by differences but united by the joy of humor. The impact of his work is best exemplified by the way it touches individuals, as seen in the transformative experience of comedian Margaret Cho, who shattered barriers and brought people together through her performance at an AAhAs event. Cooper's leadership style is a testament to his dedication to empowerment, risk-taking, and inspiring others to achieve greatness. His wisdom, gained through his own experiences and challenges, is evident in the valuable lessons he shares with aspiring comedians and industry newcomers. With his eyes set on the future, Cooper's dream of establishing a museum to honor the history and cultural influence of comedians is a testament to his commitment to preserving legacies and promoting inclusivity. Sir Frank Cooper's journey from a chance encounter to the founding of the AAhAs showcases his unyielding dedication to comedy, diversity, and progress. His vision, leadership, and unwavering belief in the power of laughter to heal and unite are driving forces that continue to reshape the entertainment industry and leave a legacy for generations to come.
