Jake Willson is quickly developing a reputation as an exciting and unique new voice in the guitar world. His journey from a keen jazz student at Berklee College of Music to completing a PhD in classical composition at the University of Surrey has provided the background to his aesthetic approach, and culminates in his breakthrough album, A Piece of The Action.

Jake’s approach to the instrument is also informed by his activities as a busy and versatile live performer, having shared the stage with the likes of John Williams, Bill Rieflin (R.E.M., King Crimson), Jeremy Jordan, Toyah Wilcox, and Christophe Godin (Morglbl). He has also worked on various West End shows, including Hamilton, The Book Of Mormon and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

A passionate and dedicated educator, Jake has created several educational products for JTCguitar.com (previously ‘jamtrackcentral’) and has run clinics/workshops internationally.

Stuart Ryan is a sensational guitarist. Known for acoustic finger style, country, R&B and Neo Soul.

From recording guitars on Amazon Prime movie scores to topping the charts with his best-selling guitar instruction books, Stuart Ryan is a versatile and sought-after guitarist. Ryan began his professional career in 2003 when he was awarded Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’. He spent the next ten years touring as a solo concert guitarist performing at major venues including London’s Royal Festival Hall and at many of the UK and Europe’s leading guitar festivals alongside legendary guitarists like Martin Taylor and Tommy Emmanuel.

A passionate educator, he was the acoustic guitar lesson columnist for Guitar Techniques magazine for fifteen years. His original pieces are included in the London College of Music’s guitar syllabus and are studied by thousands of guitar students each year. Ryan’s original compositions are licensed through BMG music and regularly appear on TV and radio across the world. He has authored seven books covering a range of different guitar styles from fingerstyle to Soul. Keyboardist Emily Francis is an in-demand session musician, playing for several independent and signed artists as well as being an artist in her own right with contemporary prog-jazz group the Emily Francis Trio. Making her mark very much as a keyboard player and “sound-smith”, her work has been featured in the UK’s largest jazz magazine “Jazzwise” and played on the likes of Jazz FM and BBC Radio. In this Episode I chat to Jazz guitarist Pete Roth. We talk about the state of music education, Working on Jazz circuit and how to improve your reading and comping


Pete has worked professionally since 1998 in numerous projects such as backing a major artist in the time time television show Hitparade der Volksmusik to playing in the remake of the Christmas song Do They Know it’s Christmas for Radio Capitol FM. Recently he has been Musical Director in a private TV production and plays with different bands all over the country as well as having travelled the world on his work for P&O cruise ships onboard the Oriana.

He has performed with such prestigious international artists such as Brian Dee, Rosemary Squires (Sammy Davis Jr., Les Paul), The London Gala Orchestra, Teatro, Maria Friedmann (Stephen Sondheim, Michael Legrand), Nick Meier (Jeff Beck group), Giorgio Serci (Naim, Antonio Fortione), Bill Bruford, Tim Sanders (Eric Clapton, The Who), Sam Fylnn (Roachford, Eurythmics, Stevie Wonder), Terl Bryant (John Paul Jones), among many others.

Pete has worked under the musical direction of Brian Dee (Miles Davis, Fred Astaire, Peggy Lee, ,,Downbeat” poll as best British Jazz pianist in 1962) Steve Bell (London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, BBC Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.) Olivier Awards winning Michael Haslam, Chris Walker (Oliver) among many others.

The festivals and venues he played in include Pizza Express Dean Street Jazz Club Soho, Kings Place Music Festival, Bill’s Head In Barnes, The Royal Festival Hall (Purcell Room), West Wycombe Music Festival, Menier Chocolate Factory, International Guitar Festival (London). Pete Roth has just finished his fourth international tour for MGP records promoting his new album Meridian.
