  • Episode 133: Discussing Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and more with Multimedia Artist and Photographer Katelyn Kopenhaver
    Jun 23 2021

In this episode of BS’ing with Sean K, Sean Kneese talks to photographer and multimedia artist Katelyn Kopenhaver. One of her projects is: “She was Last Seen”, where she spray paints: SHE WAS LAST SEEN (a statement often written in news articles related to missing persons cases) on mattresses she finds on the street. Kopenhaver attacks these mattresses aggressively, takes a momento, and discards them - paralleling the dark reality experienced by victims of violent crime. As of late, Katelyn has placed mattresses in site specific locations contingent upon historical areas of crime and abuse. Kopenhaver also has a strong interest in the notorious Jeffrey Epstein case and created a banner that reads “Epstein is the Worst Kind of Virus” which she has displayed at various locations relevant to the case. Within photography, Kopenhaver considers herself a blend between an anthropologist and a journalist - sometimes making photographs and sometimes seeing photographs. Portraiture especially holds a unique and special place because of the collaboration it entails of photographer, camera, and subject. Kopenhaver has been published and exhibited both nationally and internationally, including Metal Magazine, Article 22, Pen + Brush, The Brooklyn Rail, and ABC News. Her photography clients include Netflix, New York Magazine, Interview Magazine, Culture Trip, Havas Group, and others.
Kopenhaver graduated from SVA in 2016 where she studied photography. She is originally from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and currently resides in New York, New York.
