Well, it's almost that time of the year again. The time when the secret society at Crunchyroll begin to crunch the numbers on this year's anime and try to pick winners for - Oh, oh you didn't know? The nominees eligible for the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards ends after the Summer 2024 season. So the best anime for the 2025 awards will be anime from Fall 2023 to Summer 2024. Makes perfect sense! What also makes sense is Attack on Titan winning awards for their special episode, Demon Slayer sweeping up categories for their short season, and Jujutsu Kaisen making a surprise appearance to, once again, clean up the remaining awards. (Writing this hurt me on the inside...)

Jokes aside, Frankfurtter and MagicallyAverage sit down to discuss their predictions for the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards; which anime will the judges speak highly of versus which ones the baka bois feel deserve the grand prize. Whenever you hear the world 'manga' you always imagine Japan, and it's obvious why! But imagine a new-age of manga where someone could think of France, Mexico, or the United States when discussing new manga and its origins. Beautiful, isn't it? Well, Viz Media would agree! Viz has launched a new program to help aspiring mangaka around the globe jump into the spotlight that has always been centered around just Japan. Viz Originals One-Shots (not an entirely creative name, but gets right to the point) is aimed at showcasing new manga creators from around the world on the Viz platform. Creating a stage this large can only spell good things for the manga world, but avoiding the mistakes that Tokyopop made when they attempted this same feat will be a challenge as well. MagicallyAverage and Frankfurtter take a look at the new program and discuss what Viz will need to look out for so they don't make those some critical errors Tokyopop made all those years ago.

There are thousands upon thousands of series in Japan that are patiently waiting to get their change for a publication in North America. Sure, many fans can read them online from freelance translators, but having the official publication of a manga series finally released physically is a completely different feeling! That being said, it seems like many of the main distributors of manga outside of Japan don't really have their fingers to the pulse for what manga fans are truly asking for. Minecraft the manga? Dark Souls manga? More Boruto?!? Not to mention swapping digital series between apps??? This just screams 'suits in a conference room thinking they know weeb stuff...' Frankfurtter and MagicallyAverage go over some of the recent "big" manga announcements and talk about the ever growing gap of manga series not being translated over for English readers.
