  • Episode 17: Politics y Mas Voting, Running & Educating
    Oct 17 2020
Danielle learned the power of community and education growing up in the Inland Empire. As a first generation college student at Yale University, Danielle realized her family was not alone in their struggle to access equitable educational opportunities. Her desire to extend equitable education opportunities to families, like her own, led her to become a secondary math teacher on the Navajo Nation where she experienced first hand the barriers low income rural families face to accessing high quality education. In her role as the Director of Organizing and Policy for Los Angeles Unified Board District 5, Danielle intimately understood the state of education in the second largest school system in the United States and the urgency to make sure that half a million children have access to equitable education. She is a candidate for Redlands Unified School District, Trustee Area 5 to ensure all students have the same educational opportunities in her hometown. You can support her by donating to her campaign, phone banking or just promoting on social media. • Episode 16: Advice about Personal Finance for Immigrants!
    Oct 9 2020
Adina is an immigration attorney and expert on personal finances for immigrants. She runs ImmigrantFinance.com, a personal finance website for immigrants. Adina has taught dozens of webinars and seminars on personal finances for the immigrant community and been featured in Crazy Sexy Dinero Podcast, the Debt Free Guys Podcast, the Money Matters Radio Show, Fundera, Forbes, Aspiration, Camino Financial, Voz de Americas, Nova Credit, among other media outlets. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Washington University in St. Louis. Adina became passionate about helping immigrants develop financial stability after personally experiencing the challenges and frustrations of navigating the U.S. financial system with her husband who is an immigrant. When he immigrated to the U.S., it was terrifying for them to try to figure out basic personal finance steps on their own. They didn’t know if he could have a bank account or credit card with his visa. Or what would happen if he lost his visa and ability to work. Could he have a mortgage or health insurance as an immigrant? What taxes did he need to pay? There were no books or websites available to figure out the answers to any of these questions. They were overwhelmed, scared, and felt alone. They had to figure it all out on their own, but they don’t want you to struggle like they did. Immigrant Finance School is exactly what they wish they had during this time – a community for learning and support on personal finance for immigrants, and a place to learn about this topic. As an immigration lawyer, Adina was also inspired to create Immigrant Finance after representing and working with hundreds of immigrant and refugees in Egypt, Ecuador, the U.S.-Mexico border, and the Washington, D.C. region, many who face detention and deportation. She has seen how people’s lives could change from access to personal finance information and the empowerment, options, and control that financial stability can provide for immigrants and their families. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bestiebestiebombom/support
