  • Resumen

  • Born in Cork, Brian Carney was educated at Clongowes Wood College before heading to UCD. While in UCD Brian never played for collidge, rather with local club Lansdowne RFC regularly turning out for their second and third teams. At Lansdowne Brian Corrigan, a local club stalwart noticed Carneys potential and suggested his union game would improve if he played Rugby League over the summer months. So Carney teamed up with the Dublin Blues Rugby League team where he was an instant success. It soon became apparent that Carneys low centre of gravity, pace and power were perfectly suited to Rugby League and within his first season he was drafted into the Irish Students team for the Four Nations. In 2004 Brian became the first Irish man to represent Great Britain since ex St Helens hooker Tom McKinney who won the last of his 11 caps in 1957. In 2007, Carney was named in the Ireland rugby Union squad for their tour of Argentina. In the first Test, Carney's international début, he scored an interception try minutes into the game. Carney was selected in the Irish squad for the 2007 Rugby Union World Cup but didn’t play.
