  • 239. The CHURCH Might Be The Greatest Cause Of Atheism
    Jun 21 2024

Brennan Manning said “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” With multiple mega-church leaders in the headlines, including the arrest of "Bling Bishop" Lamor Whitehead for financial crimes, and Gateway Church founder Robert Morris's child sex abuse allegations, among a seemingly endless stream of others, it's not surprising that some would become disillusioned about their involvement in church and maybe even ditch their faith altogether. How have rigid doctrines and opposition to scientific advancements contributed to growing skepticism among the educated and younger generations? Is there a way for the church to reconcile with its past and present challenges to rebuild trust and relevance in a rapidly changing world? We talk about this and more in episode 239. Obviously, our individual perspectives are limited and there are many others so share your own get into it!

As a celebrated athlete and a devout Catholic, Butker’s speech has garnered significant attention and sparked a lively debate. Join us as we explore the various dimensions of his address, highlighting both the applause and the criticisms it has received.

Also, for some Christians, cussing is a line you shouldn't cross. We aren't those Christians. We've recently received negative feedback on some salty language used on our podcast. We react to a thoughtful Instagram post by @nakedpastor about why he sometimes cusses, why some of us like to mix some zesty language into our conversations, and how it might actually be a good thing. You WILL hear some adult language in this episode. And listener feedback!

  • 235. Mark Driscoll KICKED Off Stage
    Apr 29 2024
Pastor Mark Driscoll was recently kicked off stage by Pastor John Lindell when he started his speaking time off at the Stronger Men's Conference, hosted at Lindell's James River Church. Driscoll was upset that there was an acrobat/sword swallower, who turned out to be a former stripper as part of the festivities opening the conference. That's a sentence I never thought I'd put in a podcast description. “The Jezebel spirit opened our event,” Driscoll said, after explaining he was hoarse because he had been up since 1 a.m. praying. “. . . Before the word of God was opened, there was a platform. It was a high place. On it was a pole, an Asherah. The same thing that’s used in a strip club for women, who have the Jezebel spirit to seduce men." The two seemed to reconcile publically late in the conference, but since then accusations are flying about Mark allegedly undermining the leadership and sowing discord at James River Church. Do men's conferences need all the spectacle? Motorcross, tanks, flamethrowers, sword swallowers, etc? Was Driscoll correct in publicly rebuking the conference? How should disagreements between church leaders or Christians in general be handled? Plus Andy is the victim of Jeff's Rapid Fire, Josh Howerton may have plagiarized his apology for a bad joke, & listener feedback. This is far more than a TMZ-style gossipy reaction episode.
