  • Episode 21: What history can teach us in Leadership
    Jan 21 2019
Have you ever been curious about diversity of thought in leadership and the patterns in our people? In today’s episode, I welcome Penny Ismay, History Professor at Boston College to discuss history in britain and how moving from an agricultural society to an industrial society over a couple of generations can be translated into the patterns of people in organisations today.
Intrigued and interested at how history and leadership are connected? Tune in to today’s episode!
    Penny and I discuss:
    • How feminine and masculine energy is used in a historical role and why empathy is so important
    • Why diversity in organisations is more than the balance of men and women, but more about diversity of thought
    • How to motivate people to do more, showing care and contributing to the greater good

Professor Ismay is interested in how the radical changes associated with modernity were made socially meaningful in Britain and around the world. Her current project examines the surprising ways in which Britains used friendly societies to navigate the new social landscape of rapidly growing urban centers in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. She teaches courses on early modern and modern Britain and its empire, revolution and social trust in modern Europe; money and credit, and sociability and associational life.

Today we are joined by Nicole Van Hattem, Brisbane based, Holistic Success Coach for Women in Business. Together we discuss sustainability and success, why you need to view your people first and the importance of self care.
For over 20 years, Nicole has worked in corporate banking, finance and various other industries before embarking on a new path which led her to begin Nicolevanhattem.com. After experiencing a huge physical and mental burnout from working 16 hour days, not eating, not sleeping and living on caffeine she desperately needed time off. But the reality check didn’t hit her until she got the news that her boss had died from a heart attack.

  • Episode 19: Embracing both Strategy and Culture
    Dec 17 2018
In this episode, we welcome Simon from MEC Mining to hear his views of functional leadership (in particular, feminine energy), how he went from a technical engineer fresh out of university to a leader with over 14 years experience in business. Simon believes that the foundation of leadership is trust and creating a great culture will enable people, teams and organisations to thrive.
Simon believes in having a supportive team that is going to back the decisions made and adapting to market changes is fundamental to creating a solid work culture that are passionate about what they do. By building on the basis of trust and good relationships we create strong cultural workplaces that people thrive in.
Simon and I discuss the importance of balancing masculine and feminine energy in the workplace and how to find a balance of both energies rather than leading with the dysfunction!

  • Episode 18: Embracing Re-birth - Living your potential
    Dec 3 2018
In this episode, we welcome again Nicky from Evergreen Coaching and delve into Embracing Re-birth, sharing insights and strategies about success, the imaginary corporate ladder and how we define success as leaders - it often comes from the masculine energy in us. In this episode, we look at all kinds of success and why re-birthing gives us a chance to explore all our potential.
If you’re struggling to measure success in your work or in your role as a leader, this episode is a great one for you to go back to the drawing board and consider your beliefs around success.
As leaders, we need to be prepared to leave the corporate ladder and think more holistically, not being so focused on moving up and leaving others behind. We need to continuously be re-birthing in order to propel us forward when we need to and think of all the ways that will help us succeed as leaders.
Nicky and I both share our experiences of success and the first re-birthing moments we had that led us to think differently about success, work and leadership.
Be prepared to change your mindset around dysfunctional success and broaden your thinking around the corporate ladder.
