Listen to a lovely interview with ⁠Independent Shakespeare Co⁠ (ISC) ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠Owners & Actors David Melville & his wife Melissa started their theater company twenty-five years ago. Today he discusses his passion for theater and creating a sense of community throughout #CoVid19 through Shakespeare. They are in a year-round venue in the Atwater Crossing Complex in Atwater Village and occupy a 65-seat performance venue, the Independent Studio. They also perform 'Shakespeare In The Park" live in Griffith Park and have performed to over 50,000 people each and every summer.

We will be discussing their premiere of the film they made during the pandemic titled, Live at The Porpentine showcasing at the Valley Film Festival.

In Fall of 2019 the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks broke ground on the Griffith Park Performing Arts Stage Project, a $4 million enterprise to build a permanent stage at their site which is currently under construction. Their performance venue develops new work, explore classical plays, and teach classes to both upcoming starlets and seasoned actors.

⁠⁠Independent Shakespeare Co⁠ ⁠theatre takes the lead in creating collaborations that span racial, cultural, and economic differences, as well as generational and experiential divides. They fully embrace the full range of humanity to create performances that are more vibrant and have greater artistic merit.

In 2009, ISC received the #HollywoodArtsCouncil Charlie Award. In 2015 recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle highest honor, the #MargaretHarford Award for sustained excellence in theater. Listen to a powerful interview with ⁠AdopTexas⁠ Adoption Agency, ⁠⁠⁠⁠ Owner Charlotte Duncan a woman who started an adoption agency with her husband over forty years ago. Today she discusses her passion for adoption and giving #Birthmothers and #Parents with fertility issues or facing an unplanned pregnancy crisis, the option of putting up their child for adoption as well as learning about the process of adoption. In her words she explains, " The (adoption) process when it is done right and every person is respected and treated in the way that God expects us to treat each other. Adoption is a bridge, a bridge that links the birth and adoptive families’ hopes and dreams forever. That bridge should safely carry a child from the birth family into the adoptive family to provide that child with the life and opportunities those birthparents have made that ultimate sacrifice for. Adoption is based on the foundation of trust.; trust of me by birth and adoptive families and trust by me of them. If there is no trust there is no relationship." She has dedicated her life to being entrusted to help pregnant women find their babies homes in a safe and loving environment. We open by paying tribute to the USDAC: Honor Native Lands (HNL) Project. Among Tribal Nations in the United States, it is commonplace, even policy, to open events and gatherings by acknowledging the traditional Indigenous inhabitants of that land. Acknowledgment is a simple, powerful way of showing respect and a step toward correcting the stories and practices that erase Indigenous people’s history and culture and toward inviting and honoring the truth. I acknowledge the lands of the Native Americans who established the small towns of Port Arthur, Orange, Beaumont, and the City of Houston, all located in Texas and lands of my families ancestors.
